Report On Chinese Translation Of The First Six Chapters In The Silverado Squatters

The translator signed a contract with Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press on July2013, taking up the job of translating into Chinese the novel The Silverado Squatters written by Robert Louis Stevenson. The work will be used to accumulate the data of parallel corpus of the press or be published for common readers.Basing on the type and language feature of the target text and aiming at "being lifelike and expressive", the whole work has been completed by using a variety of translation strategies and skills and combing different kinds of translation principles(eg. Skopos Theory of German functionalism).The thesis based on the process of the translation project,covers four parts:a brief introduction to the project, analysis and preparatory work before translation, analysis of the use of translation strategies and then a summary of the project. The first chapter introduces the origin and goals of the project; The second chapter mainly concerns the contents about the author, his language style and the implementation plan as well; The third chapter is the body part of the thesis, which focuses on the analysis of using different translation strategies and the skills of dealing with the translation of the name of the novel and the chapters, of figure of speech and of the word "Chinaman" which contains ethnic discrimination meaning;And the fourth chapter is a review and summary of the whole process of translation. Attached to the body are a list of references and the translation of the novel.The thesis is a translation report as well as a review of the translation project, by which the author hopes to share her experience with those who are doing or will do translation.
