The Strategies And Methods Of The Translation Of Popular Science Reading: A Report On The Translation Of The Secret Of Everyday Things

This report, which is based on the translation of the20th、35th-39th chapters ofThe Secret of Everyday Things written by French science writer Jean-Henri CasimirFabre. Connecting with relevant translation theories, the purpose to write this report isto introduce this translation practice activity, to narrate the whole process and to raisesome questions and seek for the solution based on this translation practice.This translation practice report is divided into four parts altogether: the first partis a project introduction with the content including background information of thewriter Fabre, the original intention and preparation for translating this book、theproject requirements and the whole process of this translation practice; the second partinvolves the original intention to translate this text, some requirements of the publisherand the whole preparation before translation and the translation process and someproblems the writer has encountered; the third chapter is about a brief introduction tothe special type of literature popular science reading, including category and effect ofpopular science readings and4features of popular science readings:1, Scientificity;2,Literariness;3, Popularity;4, Interest; the last one is the key part of this thesis, theE-C translation strategies and methods of translating the popular science readings willbe discussed in this part on the basis of the translation practice.As the type of popular science readings is not familiar with us, the meaning ofthis translation practice activity was to understand what is popular science readingμ.In the process of translation, the translator met some troubles, for example: theinfluence produced by the unfamiliar background of the original text and adjustment ofsentence structure. But at the same time, the translator has achieved many skills andstrategies in the process of translation practice and discussed and summarized thoseskills and strategies in this paper. By writing this paper the translator hopes this paperwill have reference action for translation of the popular science readings in the future.
