’Zheng’is a classical Chinese instrument, known as’the top sound and the master instrument’in China. In the1980s, due to its mellow tone and fruitful expression,’zheng’has been starting to be favoured by many Chinese modern composers. Since the reform and open up, the composition of’zheng’was influenced by western modern music, modernist literary thoughts and the audience aesthetic raising. According to the argue between the classical and modern, East and West, Chinese composers should insist on how to explore the innovation and principle of’zheng’. Looking back on the first decade of the21st century, we were pleasant and surprised to find that, some Chinese composers has broke the gaps between Chinese and Western music after the revolution of the concept of rebellion and regression. They have composed a lot of great works which is definitely belong to Chinese themselves.Through analysing the changes of creative ideas, the techniques of composition, performance skills and aesthetics, this dissertation will focus on the characters of ’zheng’composition and its possible innovation in future.Chapter one, reviewing the concepts of traditional’zheng’and its influence.Chapter two, analysing the innovative changes of the concepts of modern’zheng’ from the historical background, the aspects of aesthetics and music Philosophy.Chapter three, analysis of textures, tone and the form of music to research the techniques of composition.Chapter four, summarizing the creative concepts of the Chinese’zheng’music return in the new period is the core of the whole dissertation. The paper aims at analysis of’xungen’,’xieyi’and composition. Meanwhile, combined with several great pieces since2000years ago as examples in order to show the stylist concepts of ’zheng’composers.
