The Eastern Han Dynasty is a very important era in the history of Chinese. Thedevelopment of Chinese vocabulary has approximately experienced three stages-the stage oforigin, derivation and compounding. In the Han Dynasty, compounding took the place ofderivation and became the main word formation. Disyllabic words became more mature and alarge number of neologisms were produced. In the same era, especially in the Eastern HanDynasty, plenty of classics notes of Confucian appeared, they are important materials inconstruct the history of Chinese vocabulary. Among the Eastern Han notes’ corpus, ZhengXuan’s note occupies a significant position. Four of the Thirteen Classics are written byZheng Xuan. As soon as one of the four books Zhou Li Zhu produced, it immediately becamethe authoritative version of works in explain Zhou Li. In this book Zheng Xuan compares theancient system with Han’s system, explains ancient sentences with new sayings, his wordshas reflect the actual language of the Late Han Dynasty. By comprehensive description andexplanation, the words in Zhou Li Zhu can play an important role in the study of Eastern HanDynasty vocabulary and make great contribute to lexicography. This paper takes disyllabic words in Zhou Zheng’s note of Zhou Li as the object, basedon the corpus we established and the knowledge of lexicology, exegesis and semantics. Anduse the classification, statistical analysis, induction and a combination of qualitative andquantitative as method to study, trying to depict the basic appearance of the disyllabic wordsof Zheng’s Note and analysis the phenomenon of language. There are four chapters in this thesis. The first chapter includes an overview of the study outcomes of Zheng’s note of Zhou Li,the paper’s research significance and research methods. Through the review of the previousstudy situations in text, exegetical and lexicography towards Zheng’s note of Zhou Li byprominent personage of the time, indicating the reasons for take disyllabic words in Zheng’snote of Zhou Li as the paper’s object and pointing out the significance of the disyllabic words.Meanwhile, we described the criteria and methods of operation of these disyllabic words. The second chapter is the analysis of compounding words in Zheng’s note of Zhou Li.Mainly includes two aspects: First, the semantic analysis of compounding words of Zheng’snote of Zhou Li within the framework of the grammatical structure; Second, the discussion about the disyllabic words which are literal ordinary but semantic different of Zheng’s note ofZhou Li.Not only the disyllabic words are in large quantity but also the word formation form hasbeen basically mature in Zheng’s note. In addition to the basic grammatical structure of theconjunct type, parallel type, verb-object type, predicate type, supplementary type, andadditional type, linked type and positively skewed type also exist in this book. Among thesetypes the semantic formation of parallel type and conjunct type are our focus. Most of thedisyllabic words are conjunct type in Zheng’s note, the semantic relations of the twomorphemes of the disyllabic word are complicated, which exactly shows the conjunct typedisyllabic words are flexible in presenting new things and adaptable to the concise of Chinesevocabulary’s semantic. The two morphemes of the parallel type disyllabic words differ inboth semantic relations and meaning levels and some disyllabic words has same morphemesin different order. Most disyllabic words of verb-object type in Zheng’s note are nouns andverbs, the semantic relations of morphemes are relatively diverse. The rest of types ofdisyllabic words are fewer in Zheng’s note. Among additional type disyllabic words, only“di” is a prefix. After “Di” composed words like “first””second” as a new appeared prefix, itfollowed by some nouns in Zheng’s note. It illustrate Wang Li ‘s opinion that words like“first””second” means orders, the phenomena “di” followed by nous are originated in HanDynasty is right. There are also some disyllabic words which cannot be structurally analyzed,we also describe and explain these words here. Moreover, some words’ meaning are different from its common meaning or basicmeaning in modern Chinese in Zheng’s note, we discussed about the reason why disyllabicwords which are literal ordinary but semantic different.Chapter Three is the analysis of lianmianci in Zheng’s note of Zhou Li. According to ouranalysis, all the simple words in Zheng’s words are lianmianci. Lianmianci had alreadyproduced in Zhou and Qin Dynasty, but mainly appeared in “The book of songs" and"Chuci".Lianmianci produced another peak in the Han Dynasty, which is the result of Han Fuand other styles’s appearance. It fully illustrated Lianmianci’s Oral character. There are also acertain number of unbroken words in" Zhou Li note",which is a noteworthy phenomenon. From the annotation language characteristics, poetic couplet soft words in notes in thelanguage are analyzed. Because the annotation aims to explain the ancient books, thus the annotators always usemore colloquial words to explain the difficult words. Lianmianci in Zheng Xuan’s notesappears in the context mainly has the following four kinds: as the comment statementscomposition, and together with the sentence explain Zhou Li statement; as an example ofwords explanation of Zhou Li’s not easily understood words; as direct translation of Zhou Li’sdifficult words; as explanation of pronunciation for the Zhou Li words. In which, the first caseis the most.Chapter Four is the conclusion of the study of this paper. In the analysis, we found that Zheng’s note of Zhou Li of disyllabic words have emergedin the Shang and Zhou, the Spring and autumn Period and the Warring States period, HanDynasty, reflecting Zheng’s note of disyllabic words in different historical level.Because the disyllabic words in Zheng’s note of Zhou Li for sacrificial names, etiquette, official name, car service, room names, are mainly modification-center structure andverb-object structure, parallel structure is very few, so the formal disyllabic words in thelargest number. There are twenty kinds of modification-center structure disyllabic words inthe semantic relations, and which can be divided into many small classes. The rich andcomplex semantic relations show the maturation of modification-center structure. The numberof subject-predicate, linkage, verb-complement type and additional disyllabic words inZheng’s note of Zhou Li are rarely. It may account for the structure of Chinese word-buildingis still under development. In reference to modern Chinese, Zheng’s note of Zhou Li has some" ordinary meaningliterally" double sound words, such as" the bull"," husband’s family"," summary".
