| After the21st century, the films of female directors in China have been flourishing, emerging in an endless stream. However, very rare female directors can create her own artistic style and take a stand in the market.LiYu is a very talented female director whose films are all with a strong and independent style which always make women as the leading stream of the story. Compared to the other sixth generation directors, her films look more critical and realistic.This paper uses some specific films as examples to explain the special charm of LiYu’s films by digging into the inner world of women and their extreme situations, and then analyze the problems of these films which emerge from the development of art to commerce in order to summarize the deficiencies of her films when transforming to commercialization, which can predict and position the future of her development, thereby providing some reliable references to the development of Chinese contemporary films.There are four chapters in the main part of this paper. The first one mainly talks about the image style and the cause of formation of the narrative pattern combining LiYu’s early life and working experience. It also shows the inheritance and breakthrough of her films from the sixth generation directors. The second chapter fulfills the image expression of the inner world of LiYu through the transformation of her film concept from closeness to openness and the specific expression of Oedipus complex and Electra complex of her films. Chapter three expresses the subtle and complicated relationships of women through reappearing the extreme situations of her films. The last chapter analyzes some problems in LiYu’s films when developing from art to commerce, thus summarizing the deficiencies and shortcomings when transforming to commercialization. |
