Movies and literature has bond together since the first day in the Chinese film history for more than a century. Huge amount of movies became popular due to the adaptation of the novels. Yet due to the divergence of the adaptation among the directors and studios, broke-up happened some times. In1920s, happened the twin films A story of three lovers as the first coincidence. After the PRC founded, also happened Beijing film studio and August first film studio producing the movies based on the adaptation of same novels for quite some times.Talking about this, the Sichuan novel Xumao and His Daughters wouldn’t be missed. As the scar literature and the representative work of rural subjects, this work not only won the first Mao Dun prize for literature, and at the top.It is because of the excellent original novel has caused the contention between two Chinese film studios. Wang Yan, the director of Beijing film studio in want of portraying the characters within good hope of a bright life and no fear adapted the novel within loyalty to the original, making " The Fourth Girl" Xu Xiu Yun the heroine. However Li Jun as the director in August first film studio was long for displaying the character of farmer on the screen. So that the film Xumao and His Daughters directed by Li Jun has a huge change during the adaptation, making Xu Mao as a typical farmer the hero. The film is about how Xu Mao turns into a selfish filthy sophisticate from the unseasoned kind fanner. These two directors reform the classic literature from two very different kind of perspectives, which makes these twin films varied and hit at the same time. This thesis reviews the event in the History of Chinese films, starting with the difference of adaptations of the same novel, via text method to compare the difference appeared in both adaptations and on the screen, tells how novel narration turns into film narration and concludes the difference between novel narration and film narration and the difference between two adaptations. The different art forms of novel and film and the different ideas the writer and directors hold makes the novel and twin films Xumao and His Daughters have their own features.
