The numeral is a special class of words in any language, while “one”is aspecial word in any numerals. In terms of Chinese,“一”can not only be used asa word all alone, but also be used as a morpheme together with othermorphemes to form words. Researches on the word “一”and the compoundstructures within it have been quite rich, while researches on the morpheme“一”and the compound words within it are still relatively poor. Focused on theChinese morpheme “一”,according to the double-syllable words formed by“一”collected in the modern chinese dictionary,based on the corpus of theCenter for Chinese Linguistics of Peking University, this paper will deeplyand widely discuss the characteristics of the morpheme “一” and thecompound words within it from synchronic and diachronic perspectives.First, this paper will classify the double-syllable words formed by “一”inthe modern chinese dictionary, which will contribute to make clear themeaning of “一”in every word as well as to locate the forming time of everyword in history. This lays bare the overall features of “一”to form words andlays the basis of the research below.Then, investigate the relation of “一”and the other morpheme in the sameword,discuss the progress how the compound structure developed into aword,and conclude the way of the formation of each word,so as to discoverthe function of the morpheme“一” in the word formation.Last, there’re several morpheme items of “一”in word formation,but theability of each item in forming words presents obvious unbalancedphenomenon. Based on the analysis of the common and particular semanticsof each morpheme item, analyze the reason why different morpheme itemspresent unbalanced ability to form words.Researches on the morpheme“一” can contribute to deepen the study ofnumerals and inspire the study of other complicated morphemes, as a result, to enrich the fundamental study of Chinese language. At the same time, for wemake a lot use of Chinese dictionaries, we find and discuss some questions init. So this paper may also do some contribution to the lexicography.
