The new-era literature is always one of the hot topics in the study of ChineseContemporary Literature. And Wang Zengqi was involved in the new-era literature. Thenovels he published in1980s attract widespread attentions of scholars because of itsunique style, and thus it has generated a lot of remarkable achievements. At the sametime, the type of his novels becomes uncertain because of the complex relationshipbetween Literary traditions before the new-era and his novels in1980s. Under themainstream narrative discourse, his narrative broke through the conventionalunderstanding of novel. But how to summarize the novel narrative form in1980s remainfurther research and discussion.From the angle of the relationship between the narrator and the author, the articleputs his novels into the form of Individual Narration. Due to Wang Zengqi’s poetic spirithe injects, his narrative becomes individual. Wang Zengqi’s poetic spirit is reflected inboth the lyric of his narrative and the image of his novel. The article will analyze thenatural images and the custom images of Dinner Flower to prove the poetic spirit of WangZengqi in order to seize his novel type in1980s as a whole.The article will mainly discuss in three sections. It will start from the discussion ofIndividual Narration of his novels in1980s. Confronts exist in several levels betweenIndividual Narration and Grand Narration. On one hand, Wang Zengqi has his culturalreserve of Individual Narration; on the other hand, under the pressure of Grand Narrationin the early1980s, he does not have freedom as we imagines. Being through the turmoilof the Seventeen years literature and The cultural revolution, the hidden purpose is toavoid the mainstream discourse. With the attitude of reclusion and calm,he talks about hishometown and old friends, old stories in a poetic way. The images in novels come fromthe poetic spirit of Wang Zengqi. And his poetic spirit is embodied in the images andtender feeling in narrative. The second part will analyze the natural images and the Custom images of DinnerFlower to prove the poetic spirit of Wang Zengqi. Wang Zengqi’s father Wang Jushenghas certain influences in the formation of aesthetic consciousness of Wang Zengqi.Through the analysis of the natural image of Dinner Flower, we see the tough spirit ofcharacters in his novels. The characters in his novels are always in a borderline state inChinese people, which is like the “wide” image of Dinner Flower. The image of DinnerFlower contains all the beauty and sadness of the character Wang Yuying. And the imageof Zhu Zi Deng represents the character Sun Shuyun’s destiny and spirit, the soft greenlight represents her happiness and hope. The sound of the crystal balls falling apart turnsout to be Irony, which represents the tragic fate of Sun Shuyun.The third part will discuss the tender feeling of Wang Zengqi. He writes his characterswith full of warmth. His tender feeling is partly based on the distance from utilitarianism.The distance is reflected on certain levels of his narrative. That’s why most of hissubjects in1980s are in his hometown in Gao You. Apparently Wang Zengqi hasrelationship with Confucian culture. But he only takes it partly in. He abandons theutilitarianism in Confucian culture and chose the tender feeling which is both in theConfucian culture and his poetic spirit. And based on the tender feeling of commonhumanity, he breaks though the barriers between the western humanitarianism andConfucian culture.
