A Study Of Chinese Polysemy Structure "Yi VP₁Jiu VP₂"

This research object is polysemy structure"Yi VP₁Jiu VP₂",which is mainlydiscussing about sentences of this structure are multiple meanings. T he research of thispaper is based on the Construction grammar theory to explain the sentences of semanticambiguity from points of view on constructional meaning, VP₁internal semantics anddifferent types of VP₂. What is author’s basic view is that there is only one constructionalmeaning and the sentences consisting of this structure are multiple meanings, which causedby interacting between its predicate parts and constructional meaning of the structure tomake the meaning of its sentences beyond constructional meaning of the structuredisplaying full of variety.Chapter one is to determine constructional meaning to be"before and after Shunchengyi", which is the prototype of constructional meaning. Author did hypothesis on "Yi"contributing itself to a channel of verbs that consists of three different positions which willdetermine the difference of reference point for "Jiu+VP₂", to help explain there is a positivefunction forcing constructional meaning to expand to peripheral category formingperipheral meaning. It is cleared that the extending in constructional meaning laysfoundation of the polysemy meaning of sentences consisting of structure. The sentencemeaning of polysemy follows:"Shuncheng yi","immediately the righteous","righteousnessof precondition","causal righteousness" and "righteousness of behavior andresults","Righteous behavior results easily","righteousness of assuming" etc.Meanwhilethe polysemy meaning of sentences eventually will be related closely by a the participationof VP₁and VP₂.Chapter two is based on the perspective of the VP₁to insight into "Yi VP₁Jiu VP₂"structure showed a variety of meanings to explain words of the righteous. Author willdivide feature of VP₁that can be impact upon varieties of sentences meanings into fivecategories, and make explanation of five kinds of characteristics that play the role of thesentences meaning. Author clear relationship of the characteristics of the VP₁on the choiceof different location in the" Yi"channel.
