| This paper is a special study about the hunting images of Han Portrait Stones.The Portrait Stones are typical art works of the Han Dynasty. They have been known as history poems on the stones, they have rich contents, forceful momentum, peculiar shapes, and strong styles, many of them are about hunting images, these images are mainly concentrated in Shanxi, Shandong, Henan, Jiangsu and other districts, the hunting also has other different names. It is an important aspect for people to study the Han Dynasty life. Before the agricultural society, hunting is one of the most important means of making lives. After capturing the preys, people ate their meat, wore their fur. With the development of society, the nature and meaning of hunting have been changed. Hunting not only can be used to enrich the kitchen, treat guests, but entertain life, select the talented people, train the military and protect the agriculture as well. In addition to practical purpose, the other important purpose of hunting is to prepare the essential sacrifices for the gods or the ancestors. Based on the academic analysis of these aspects, this paper will be expounded from the following four aspects:First of all, the paper summarized the forms of hunting images, analyzed the regional arrangement of hunting images and their categories. Secondly, what was discussed in the paper was the worship about hunting images. As is written in the Zuo Zhuan,’the important affairs of the state are the worship and war’. Hunting is closely linked to these two activeties. This paper expounded the origin of worship, explained the Han Dynasty ritual and analyzed the worship meaning of hunting. Thirdly, the auther analyzed the reality of hunting, started from the origin of hunting, then, the paper analyzed the entertainment function and military value of hunting. Finally, the research of the art on hunting images, including a serious of exploration about the hunting imanges’aesthetic, carving and composition characteristics. |
