An Analysis On Application In The Cohesion In Chinese Narrative Text

Since there have been many errors of cohesion application in the compositions of foreignstudents, Chinese scholars are paying more and more attention to it. However, there is neither asystematic description about the cohesion in Chinese narrative discourse nor any analysis on thecohesion in Chinese or inter-language narration based on the investigation of wide scope oflanguage materials.Based on the previous studies of many scholars, the present thesis, first of all, builds asystem about the cohesion in Chinese narrative discourse from the following four aspects:reference, structural cohesion, logic cohesion and lexical cohesion. Second of all, after collectingthe30Chinese narrative texts from the Chinese textbook for the high grade students inelementary school and30inter-language texts, which are the Chinese narrative compositionswritten by foreign students in high grade, this thesis made a quantitative observation and analysison their using of Chinese narrative text. Then, this thesis makes a comparison between the usingquantity and ratio of the cohesion devices in the two groups of data in forms so as to figure outthe errors and problems occurred in the using of the cohesion devices in inter-languagediscourses. At last, this thesis lists the situations where the cohesion devices should be used butnot.Furthermore, this thesis classified the cohesion devices in narrative texts into two types:parataxis and hypotaxis. Based on the collected data from the30Chinese narrative texts, thisthesis finally reaches the conclusion that hypotaxis is the major way used in the cohesion inmodern Chinese narrative written language.Based on the analysis, this thesis gives a detailed description on the cohesion devices inChinese narrative texts. On the contrast with Chinese texts, the thesis analyzes the using ofcohesion devices in inter-language texts, hoping to provide a reference for the Chinese textualteaching.
