On The Translation Of Liyu’s Ci-poems From The Perspective Of The Functional Equivalence

The translation problems on the ancient Chinese ci-poems have been acontroversial issue which arouses strong interest for many translators to tackle themurgently over the years. And in the process of translating the ancient Chinese ci-poems,there actually arise such problems as how to deal with the name of the tune, how totranslate a concrete image beyond a ci-poem itself and what strategies to be employed.Out of the personal interest in the ci-poems, the author probes into the existingproblems in the translation of such sort of poems. By using The FunctionalEquivalence as a guiding principle in the work, the author firstly proceeds to make adetailed comparison and appreciation of the two versions by Xu Yuanchong and GongJinghao in terms of their distinctive translation methods and strategies as well as formand content. And then the author has discovered that both the two versions have theirmerits and demerits which are studied extensively into the thesis. Finally the authorattempts to illustrate the limitations about the research and puts forward twosuggestions for further study in this field for the sake of later learners and researchers.
