Internship Of Students In Master Of Interpreting

Since the establishment of MTI (Master of Translation and Interpreting),159universities have set up MTI program and the enrollment of MTI students has keptgrowing. The major has shown a trend of rapid development. However, all elementsof MTI education are still in exploration stage, including the internship arrangementwhich occupies a vital position in the entire training program. This survey aims atinvestigating the status quo of student interpreter’s internship of MTI. Surveyobjectives consist of two parts: first, presenting the findings to the MTI traininginstitutions as a reference in courses and internship arrangements; second, providingMTI students with reference in internship planning and performance. To achieve theseobjectives, this survey focuses on the following points: the current situation of studentinterpreter’s internship of MTI, experience and problems reflected through the survey,the suggestions for the improvement of the internship. With the purpose of addressingthe above problems, the author will choose student interpreters of MTI program, MTItraining institutions (universities&colleges) and internship institutions as the surveysubjects and distribute written questionnaires or online questionnaires to studentinterpreters. As a supplement, the author will also collect information and data of theirinternship by interviewing deans of training institutions and managers of internshipinstitutions. After that, the author will try to make analysis on these materials with theforms of figures and tables, expecting to resolve the above three questions andprovide reference to future researches.
