Research On Yanan Period Of Comics

The cartoon,s reformation during the period of Yan’an was due to the rectificationmovement in Yan’an.In1942, Talks at the Yan’an Forum of Literature and Art which waspublished by Mao Tse-tung not only established the Party,s lines, principles and policies ofliterary and art work,but also pushed revolutionary literary and art work further. Fromthen on, the creation of cartoon in Yan’an inclined to Serve politics.After the outbreak of Anti-Japanese War in1937,a large number of Literary and artworkers including Hua Junwu,Cai Ruohong,Zhang Ding，Zhang E and so on,all of whichwere famous cartoonists,rushed to Yan’an which was named as“sacred place of therevolution”.Under the Party,s policy of respecting literary and art workers, these patrioticcartoonists developed the unique art of cartoon whose theme was saving the country fromJapan. However, all of these cartoons during this period was divorced from reality, whichled the creation of cartoons to a low ebb.In the initial stage of the rectification movement in1942,these cartoonist focuedon the “ironic” cartoon to expose the “darkness”, subjectivism, dogmatism,sectarianismand other bad style of work in the Communist Party of China. Among these works themost representative was “the exhibition of ironic cartoon”, which was organized by HuaJunwu, Cai Ruohong and Zhang E in February1942. However,“the exhibition of ironiccartoon”was enjoyed by both the Party and the mass,the publishment of “the lilies ofthe field” by a writer called Wang Shiwei made things changed.To some extent,the essay“the lilies of the field” strengthened the “ironic meaning”which could not be beared by thepeople in Yan’an any more, more important was that the essay made the politicalsignificance of “the exhibition of ironic cartoon”rather outstanding, which indicated thatthe reformation of cartoon in Yan’an would come soon.The reformation of cartoon led by the Communist Party of China in Yan’an wasstarted after the publishment of alks at the Yan’an Forum of Literature and Art.Through therectification Movement most cartoonists accepted Mao,s new aim of literary and artistic creation which insisted that literary and artistic creation should be subordinate topolitics.As for cartoon products, new products full of revolutionary meaning took placed ofthese ones that were characterized by abstract content and esoteric moral someproducts enriched their content with at the same time with text description which waseasier for ordinary people to understand. In addition, these new cartoon works were createdfor the Anti-Japanese War and even they could change their theme according to thesituation of political struggle,which made that cartoon creation served politics more clear.
