| Shanbei yangko is a popular folk dance in the Loess Plateau of North Shaanxi province. Since the establishment of the shensi-kansu-ningsia border region in1937,under the severe situation of the Anti-Japanese War, Mao Zedong emphasized the cultural front and the military fronts were equally important. Yan’an literature and art symposium was held in May1942, Mao Zedong put forward literary and art work services for workers, peasants and soldiers, established the policy of literature and art popularization. The birth of the new yangko opera "Brothers and sisters reclaiming" in1943marked the beginning of new yangko movement. With the intellectuals and literary and art workers "Go to the countryside" movement, the influence of the new yangko was spread rapidly from Yan’an to the Shaanxi Gansu Ningxia Border Region and developed into the liberated areas gradually.
