Since the second half of the twentieth century, news translation has acquiredgrowing attention in translation studies. Theneed to deal with the linguistic diversity in the news reports and circulate the newssimultaneously around the world has made translation an important part in the newsagency. However, the study of news translation remained hysteretic, with few casestudies and incomplete theoretical and methodological systems. As Critical DiscourseAnalysis came into development, it has been used to reveal the power and dominancein the media discourse. Thus, this paper sets out to examine the news translation onforeign media official website in the hope of revealing the ideological impact on thetranslation process and extend the news translation study to a multi-lingual level. The analysis of this paper is based on the combined theoretical framework ofHalliday’s three meta-functions of language and Thompson’s social-historical analysistheory. Two sample news reports are selected and evaluated in the aspects of wording, sentence structure and texture. The data are extracted from the official Chinesewebsites to ensure the objectivity of the research. This study will assess theideological influence in news translation on a two-level basis: one level from thesource text to translator, and the second level from the translator to the translated text. Both of the levels have revealed significant power and dominance in the translationprocess after examination from linguistic aspects. The findings of the present study aim to provide linguistic and sociologicalevidence for the ideological influence in news translation and complete the previousCDA study from mono-lingual to bilingual. Meanwhile, this paper concludes thatnews translation is inevitably influenced by social and political factors. When facingthe news translation work, the translators should be aware of the ideology behind thesource text and objectively deliver the information.
