The present thesis discusses how the Chinese oil painting emulates and absorbs Western oil painting. This process of inheritance and development is actually a process of Chinese culture, aesthetic psychology and geographical features assimilating and converting the essence of a foreign art form. The paper will exhibit how Chinese oil paintings embody Chinese people’s cultural concepts, personalities and tastes. Created within the poetic and refined classical Chinese culture, the outstanding paintings have broken through the constraints of time and space and still touch us today. Guided by the aesthetic principle of image, Chinese oil paintings adeptly employ various exotic plants to create a spiritual home of Chinese characteristics.
