Objective: To discuss the selection of indicators in the forensic identification of visual impairment. Methods: Outpatients visual acuity information are collected and inspected monocular acuity, binocular acuity and reading visual acuity. All patients with the worse monocular acuity, the better monocular acuity and binocular acuity use Spearman correlation analysis, and three indicators respectively use the Spearman correlation analysis with reading visual acuity. Results: The binocular acuity of patients who are lower, equal and better than the better monocular acuity is 64.6%、34.7% and 0.7% respectely; with the increase of the degree of visual impairment, the proportion of those who could not read is 1.6%, 16.3% and 78.2%respectively. Spearman correlation analysis reveals that when the binocular acuity of patients are lower than that of the better monocular acuity, the worse monocular acuity and binocular acuity is no correlation(ra=0.189, P>0.01), in other cases, monocular acuity and binocular acuity is positively correlated(r=0.343-1.000,P<0.001); when the worse monocular acuity and the better monocular acuity difference of the patients are more than or equal to 7, or binocular acuity of the patients are lower than that of the better monocular acuity, the worse monocular acuity and reading visual acuity is no correlation(rc=0.195, P> 0.01), in other cases, monocular acuity, binocular acuity is also positively correlated( r=0.312-0.995, P<0.001; the binocular acuity and the better monocular acuity difference is negatively correlated with the worse monocular acuity and the better monocular acuity difference(r=-0.225, P<0.001) in patients with visual impairment. Conclusions: The standard of forensic identification of visual impairment using monocular acuity is not sufficient to complete the evaluation of the visual function, it is recommended to introduce binocular acuity and reading visual acuity in order to make the judicial authentication is more scientific and reasonable.
