To compare visual performance,uncorrection visual acuity (UCVA),best-spectacle corrected visual acuity(BSCVA),and contrast sensitivity(CS) in 42patients(55eyes) implanted with one monofocal aspheric intraocular lens(IOL) AcrySof IQ and one monofocal spheric intraocular lens (IOL)AcrySof Natural.Forty-two patients were randomized to receive two IOL types: Alcon AcrySof IQ(28eyes),AcrySof Natural(27eyes).Complete ophthalmologic examination including uncorrected visual acuity(UCVA), best-spectacle corrected visual acuity(BSCVA),corneal topography,and sliplamb examnation were performed preoperatively,30 days,and 90 days postoperatively.UCVA test,BSCVA test and functional acuity contrast testing chart(Stereo Optical company) were performed after surgery.All data analyses were performed using SPSS 13.0 programs.Statistical analyses were performed using Independent-sample T test and x~2 analysis were used in statistical analyses.A P value less than 0.05was considered statisticlly significant,.There was no statistically significant differences between eyes in postoperative uncorrected distance visual acuities after a follow-up of 1 month (P>0.05),but there was a statistically significant differences after 3 months (P<0.05).Postoperatively,there were statistically significant between-group difference in best-spectacle corrected visual acuity after a follow-up of 1 month and 3 months(P<0.05).There was no statistically significant differences between eyes in postoperative contrast sensitivity under photopic conditions except 18cpd after a follow-up of 1 month(P>0.05),but there was a statistically significant differences under mesopic conditionsafter 1 month(P<0.05).The differences in contrast sensitivity between groups were statistically significant under photopic conditions and under mesopic conditions after a follow-up of 1 month and 3 months(P<0.05).No complication was found in this study.The AcrySof IQ IOL with a modified posterior surface induced significantly better UCVA and BSCVA than the AcrySof Natural IOL.Contrast sensitivity was better under mesopic conditions with the AcrySof IQ IOL.
