Research On HIV Risk Factors And Health Education Of Drug Addicts In Woman’s Drug Rehabilitation Center

1.Research purpose1.1. By individual interviews questionnaire survey and group discussion of 300 women drugs takers in women compulsory isolation detoxification center, the research’s purpose is to know the demographic characteristic of female drug users.1.2. Provide AIDS education by experts and some scene plays to female drug users, then-research the effects. All the activities are taken to get the proper way to reduce the risk of being infected by HIV for these female drug users,who are more easily to be infected comparing with healthy person. And to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS.2.Research methodsThe research based on qualitative approach and quantitative approach.2.1.Individual interviewsConducted separated in-depth interviews with 30 people of these female drug users to find out the actual reason of drug abusing and drug taking habits.2.2.Questionnaire surveyThis survey focused on female drug users’ basic situation and how much they know about the AIDS, purpose on studying further about their drug using situation and the risk factors to spread AIDS.2.3.Prevention educationInvite experts to give lectures on health education,organize some female drug users to participate in some scene plays and distribute AIDS brochures. Survey same questionnaire after that and discuss the left problems. Comparing with the paired T sample to see if there any significant difference.3.Research result3.1.Result of individual interviewsTo get the personal and social reasons of taking drugs by the interview. Individual cases show that the mainly reason of being infected is being incited by friends. The factors of AIDS spreading include intravenous injection,sharing injection equipment and prostitution for drug money. Poor knowledge of AIDS’infection and prevention,also include drug users’ inclination of taking revenge to society, all above can cause AIDS’transmission. So the prevention education and health education are important for these female drug users.3.2. Basic situation of female drug users getting from the questionnaire surveyThe questionnaire survey include drug users’ age, the degree of education, career, using drug ways and knowledge of AIDS. It indicates that most drug users are not than 40 years old, which is 84.8% of all. And only 18.1% of drug users have been in senior school.63% of drug users are un-employed,69.6% are un-married. On the geographically,61.5% of them are from south of Jiangsu,22.6% from north of Jiangsu,15.9% from other provinces. And by investigation, it shows that most female drug users are younger than 25 years old at their first drug taking. It need two years from smoking to intravenous drugs.63.7% drug users share the injection equipment, and their disinfection methods are only washing equipment by hot or cold water, only 9.6% by alcohol sterilizing or by high temperature disinfection. Only 21.1% of the female drug users have salary,43.3% people are doing prostitution for drug money. Lots of HIV patients spread the disease by this way. So educating the knowledge of AIDS to the female drug users in the center means a lot.3.3.Getting to know how much AIDS knowledge that female drug users have got from the questionnaire surveyInvestigation shows that the degree of acquiring AIDS knowledge relates much to culture,age and career. Young high-educated women know more about the AIDS and can give more correct answers in questionnaire survey. There is less impact if they married or not, or in career or not.73.7% of female drug users are terrified to AIDS patients and the rate that with a thought of being isolated from AIDS patients is 78.1%. For most people, the understanding of AIDS are through TV, web etc. On the demand of health knowledge,42.2% of female drug users want to know the transmission way of AIDS,31.5% people want know the clinical symptoms of AIDS, and there are 44.4% people express their wishes to know AIDS prevention.3.4.The situation of learning AIDS preventionOn the education mode of AIDS,80.4% drug users prefer lectures and 71.1% prefer learning and discussing between companions. Test separately before and after AIDS education, and compare the twice scores with sample T, the result shows that drug users’ scores of the two test changed a lot on AIDS knowledge, transmission way and prevention methods, P values are less than 0.01. The positive effect is received from health education.4.Conclusion4.1.The risk factors of HIV are widespread in female drug users, such as intravenous drugs,sharing injection equipment and prostitution for drug money. Female drug users already formed a high-risk group of AIDS infection and transmission.4.2.Female drug users have poor knowledge of AIDS prevention. Most of them have never getting AIDS education and known less about AIDS’ transmission and prevention.4.3. It has good and positive effect by carrying out AIDS education for female drug users. The activities are popular for female drug users which include experts’ AIDS lectures, scene plays, distributing brochures and group discussions.This research shows the significance of health education and AIDS education.
