Background:Chondroblastoma(CB) is a rare benign cartilage-forming bone tumor. It constitutes 1% of all primary bone tumors. The clinical manifestations and imaging findings lack of specificity, and preoperative misdiagnosis rate is higher. At present mainly in the form of surgery treatment of the tumor, although this is a benign tumor, but the postoperative recurrence of local and the possibility of pulmonary metastasis, so need regular follow-up. Reports of this tumor at present mainly in the form of clinical case reports, and lack of large sample case studies. Object:The purpose of this paper is to retrospectively analyzed the nine cases, review the published literatures to overview the epidemic characteristics, clinical manifestation, imaging manifestation, antidiastole, treatment and prognosis of chondroblastoma. Methods:Ten patients with chondroblastoma of bone were treated in the Second hospital of Lanzhou University between 2013 June and 2016 March. One case lost of follow-up, one case the diagnosis of the tumor is controversial. We were able to obtain medical history, imaging studies, imaging manifestation, surgery records, pathological report and telephone follow-up to determine the outcome for eight. We analyzed the date retrospectively and observe the MSTS score of these patients. Result:Patients’ median age was 21(from 12 to 60 years), there were 6 males and 3 females in this group and the male-to-female ratio was 2:1. Results Among 10 cases, nine cases the clinicai diagnosis was clear. Six cases of the lesions were in the epiphyses or apophyses of the long bones, especially the proximal of the femur(one tumor), the distal of the femur(three tumors), the proximal part of the tibia(one tumor) and the distal of the tibia(one tumor). One each was located in the patella, the talus and the pelvis. The follow up of the eight patients were averaged 12 months(from 6 months to 26 months). The principal presenting symptoms were pain in all patients, the duration was several months to several years. The majority of the patients had the swelling and the adjacent joint limited movement. All patients had intralesional curettage and the cavity of tumor were inactivated by the alcohol or the hydrogen peroxide or the electrical surgery unit, then packed with allograft or autograft or artificial bone chips or total hip joint replacement(THR). The follow up of all patients were averaged 12 months(from 6 months to 26months). End of the last follow-up, eight cases had no local recurrence and distant metastasis. A case had claudication and another had the prosthetic loosening of artificial joint in the postoperative. The other patients had no local recurrence or metastasis or no pain and limitation of movement of the chondroblastoma. Conclusions:The chondroblastoma of bone was a rare, benign, cartilage-forming, mostly in teenagers. The main treatment measure is surgical treatment which can produce a better effect. But there were still the possibility of local recurrence and distant metastasis, so need long-term follow-up.
