Chondroblastoma of the patella is an uncommon benign tumor ofcartilaginous. Comparing with the giant cell tumor located in the patella,the morbidity of chondroblastoma is rarer. Meanwhile, its clinicalmanifestations are various, and images are very complicated. Therefore, theunderstanding of this kind of tumors may be limited even to the orthopedicsurgeons. It is a focus to differentiate this tumor from giant cell tumor usingX-ray, CT and MRI. When combined with aneurysmal bone cyst, it is also achallenge to obtain an accurate pathological and radiological diagnosis. Forthe treatment, curettage and bone grafting is the most popular one to beused recently, but whether to perform a biopsy before surgery still remaincontroversy. Some new technique still has an unknown prospect for thetreatment such as Radiofrequency ablation. The progress and focus in thisfield are reviewed in this article. |
