Objective:To evaluate the efficacy and value of high intensity focused ultrasound(HIFU) in the treatment of cornual pregnancy. Methods:In 13 patients with cornual pregnancy, 7 patients were treated with HIFU combined with curettage of uterine cavity and 6 patients were treated with laparoscopic cornual pregnant tissue resection. Clinical symptoms before and after the treatments, intraoperative blood loss in curettage of uterine cavity procedure under color doppler ultrasound guidance, serum level of β-human chor-ionic gonadotropin(β-hCG) were recorded.Results:1. Clinical symptons: In 7 patients exposed to HIFU therapy, 5 patients’ clinical symptons has alleviated immediately after HIFU treatment. All 13 patients’ clinical symptoms disappeared after treatment. 2. Volume of blood loss: In 7 patients underwent HIFU, 1 patient was converted into open surgery due to the impalpability of the pregnancy tissue and the rest 6 patients underwent curettage of uterine cavity procedure. The mean volume of blood loss in the curettage of uterine cavity procedure was 10±5.47 ml, which is less than the volume of blood loss in the laparoscopic cornual pregnant tissue resection(43.33±32.04ml)(P<0.05). 3. serum level of β-hCG: Serum level of β-hCG 4-6 days after both treatment methods has decreased significantly(P<0.05). The serum level of β-hCG of the patients undergone HIFU combined with curettage of uterine cavity procedure is relatively higher than the patients undergone laparoscopic cornual pregnant tissue resection 1-3 days and 4-6 days after the curettage of uterine cavity procedure and the laparoscopic cornual pregnant tissue resection, respectively(P<0.05).Conclusion:HIFU ablation treatments for the cornual pregnancy is efficacious with few side effect; its short term efficacy is relatively slower than laparoscopic resection surgery.
