Objective: To investigate the sleep quality status and its influencing factors of medical students and medical staff, helping to provide relevant proof for taking measures to improve its sleep quality and health care. Methods: The study was conducted among 2700 medical students, from Zunyi medical college, Zhuhai campus, and 2100 medical staff by cluster random sampling, from 26 designated training hospitals in Guangdong province. To investigate the sleep quality and its influencing using the self-made questionnaire of general situation and sleep quality factors and Pittsburgh sleep quality index(PSQI). The score of PSQI ≤ 4 belongs to good sleep quality; 4<score of PSQI<8 belongs to general; score of PSQI ≥ 8 belongs to sleep disorders. All the statistical methods used in this study including: general statistical description, t-test, chi-square test, single factor analysis of variance, multiple factors Logistic regression analysis, factor analysis, principal component analysis. Results: The incidence of sleep disorder was 37.67% among medical students. The scored of female is higher than male in sleep quality(t=2.795,P=0.005), sleep time(t=5.697,P=0.000) and sleep efficiency(t=6.629,P=0.000); The scored of nursing is higher than other majors in sleep quality(F=3.762,P=0.005), The sleep time(F=5.827,P=0.000),and sleep disorders(F=3.451,P=0.008), Daytime dysfunction(F=6.102,P=0.000), the total scores of PSQI score(F=4.320,P=4.320); The scored of freshman is higher than other grade students in sleep time(F=13.52,P=0.012), daytime dysfunction(F=9.50,P=0.01) and the total scores of PSQI score(F=3.20,P=3.20); The multiple factors Logistic regression analysis results show that the protective factors of sleep quality on medical students are learning interest(OR=0.760,95%CI: 0.586 ~ 0.980), living expenses(OR=0.688,95%CI:0.419~0.890), The risk factors are learning efficiency(OR=1.730,95%CI: 1.278~2.340),learning pressure(OR=1.330,95%CI: 1.015 ~ 1.731), sleep environment(OR=2.729,95%CI: 2.001 ~ 3.540), health(OR=1.740,95%CI: 1.351 ~ 2.247), anxiety(OR=1.498,95%CI: 1.099 ~ 2.045) and loneliness(OR=1.880,95%CI: 1.380 ~ 2.562). The five dimensions influencing the sleep quality of medical students are academic performance, mental health, general condition, health condition and life style through principal component analysis. The incidence of sleep disorder on medical staff is 35.23%. The scored of female medical staff is higher than male in sleep time(t=3.93,P=0.009), sleep time(t=0.95,P=0.041), sleep efficiency(t=3.32,P=0.001), daytime dysfunction(t=2.76,P=0.006); The scored of nurses is higher than doctors in the quality of sleep(F=3.75,P=0.000), sleep time(F=4.86,P=0.000), and sleep disorders(F=2.20,P=0.028), daytime dysfunction(F=3.80,P=0.000),PSQI scores(F=2.76,P=0.006); The scored of primary title medical staff is higher than professional titles in sleep quality(F=12.57,P=12.57), time to sleep(F=3.67,P=0.012),sleep time(F=8.34,P=0.000), daytime dysfunction(F=11.64,P=0.000) and PSQI scores(F=11.24, P=0.000); The multiple factors Logistic regression analysis results show that the protective factors of sleep quality on medical staff are occupation(OR=0.788,95%CI:0.639 ~ 0.972), secondary class(OR=0.768,95%CI: 0.579 ~ 0.986), obstetrics and gynecology(OR=0.815,95%CI: 0.535~0.998) and pediatrics(OR=0.678,95%CI: 0.503~0.914); The risk factors are night shift(OR=1.456,95%CI: 1.031 ~ 2.057), primary title(OR=4.586,95%CI: 1.195~11.575), intermediate title(OR=2.226,95%CI: 1.624~3.050),job stress(OR=2.279,95%CI: 1.904~5.740), currently smoking and drinking OR=2.769,95%CI: 1.982~3.814).The four dimensions influencing the sleep quality of medical staff are working condition, professional condition, mental health condition and life style through principal component analysis. Conclusion:The sleep quality of medical students is generally poor. Who have lower sleep quality than others are the female medical students, freshman and nursing. The five dimensions influencing the sleep quality of medical students are academic performance, mental health, general condition, health condition and life style. The main influencing factors of each dimension are learning interest, living expenses, learning efficiency, learning pressure, sleep environment, health status, anxiety and loneliness. The sleep quality of medical staff is also generally poor. Who have lower sleep quality than others are the nurses, primary title doctors and emergency department physician. The four dimensions influencing the sleep quality of medical staff are working condition, professional condition, mental health condition and life style through principal component analysis. The main influencing factors of each dimension are profession, secondary class, departments, night shift, professional title, working pressure, currently smoking or drinking.
