Objective: By exploring the clinical features of young multiple myeloma patients to enhance the general understanding and reduce the rate of misdiagnosis. Methods: All 133 patients who were admitted into the Hematology Ward of Affiliated Hospital of Zunyi Medical College were divided into group A included patients who were equal or under 50-year-old and group B included patients who were above 50-year-old by the age of diagnosis. Clinical data such as clinical symptoms, laboratory-tests results, imaging-exams results, subtypes and staging results of all patients has been collected and statistically analyzied in order to figuring out the possible differences between two groups. Results: ① In all 133 patients, there were 106 patients(79.7%) in the group A(above 50-year-old) including 62 male patients and 44 female patients. There also were 27 patients(20.3%) in the group B(were or under 50-year-old) including 15 male patients and 12 female patients among them. ② The results of clinical symptoms were shown as following: 32 cases(30.2%) of infections were found in group A and 3 cases(11.1%) were found in group B, which meant there was statistic significant difference between two groups(P=0.044,<0.05). But there were no statistic significant differences in other symptoms such as bone related pain, anemia and renal insufficiency(P>0.05). Whereas bone related pain still was the most common symptom in both groups ③ Laboratory-tests results: There were 36 cases(34.0%) had ESR elevation in group A and 17 cases(63.0%) in group B which showed statistic significant difference between two groups(P=0.006,<0.05). But there were no statistic significant differences in other aspects such as hemoglobin, serum albumin, bone marrow’s plasma cell ratio, serum calcium level and serum creatinine(P>0.05). ④ After a thorough statistic analysis was done, 55 cases(51.9%) who had more than 3 places of bone lesions were found in group A and 20 cases(74.1%) were found in group B. There was statistic significant difference between two groups(P=0.038,<0.05). ⑤ In subtypes and staging, we weren’t able to find statistic significant difference between group A and B(P>0.05). Most of all the patients were Ig G type and in stage DS III.Conclusion: The onset rate of younger MM may have a tendency of increasing while the elderly patients still remain as majority. There is no obvious difference about symptoms between elderly and young patients, which means bone related pain, infection, anemia and renal insufficiency are still the most common symptoms. But the occurrence rate of infection is lower and bone lesion is more severe in young patients.
