Objectives: taken patients with stagnation of phlegm-dampness syndrome of nonalcoholic fatty liver as the study objects, to compare the clinical effects of arrowhead fat-burning capsules and polyene phosphatidylcholine capsules from indexes of TCM symptom score, lipid level, liver function, hepatic B ultrasound, insulin resistance, etc., and discuss the possible mechanism of action. Methods: ninety patients with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease that accorded with diagnostic criteria and inclusion criteria were included in this study. These patients were randomly divided into the treatment group and the control group and 87 cases finished the study, with 2 cases falling out in the treatment group and 1 case in the control group. Patients in the treatment group were given arrowhead fat-burning capsules based on the basal treatment, three times a day and 4 capsules each time; patients in the control group were given polyene phosphatidylcholine capsules based on the basal treatment, three times a day and 2 capsules each time. The treatment course of both groups was 8 weeks. TCM symptom score, lipid level, liver function, hepatic B ultrasound, insulin resistance indexes of patients from two groups before and after treatment were observed and the adverse reactions during the treatment process were recorded. Results: arrowhead fat-burning capsules of the treatment group and polyene phosphatidylcholine of the control group can both relieve clinical symptoms of patients(P<0.05), but the improving effect of the treatment group on body fat, abdominal fullness and distention, languid status, poor appetite was better than that of the control group(P<0.05) and the improving effect on right hypochondriac swelling, stool viscosity and dizziness nausea of the treatment group was better than that of the control group(P<0.01); the clinical symptom score of the treatment group was also better than that of the control group(P<0.01). Drugs of both group can improve the experimental index in different degree(P<0.05), but arrowhead fat-burning capsules had better effect on reducing triglyceride(TG), rising high-density lipoprotein(HDL- C) level, improving alanine aminotransferase(ALT), aspartate aminotransferase(AST) and hepatic B ultrasound than polyene phosphatidylcholine(P<0.01). The total clinical efficiency of arrowhead fat-burning capsules reached 93.02%, evidently higher than 68.18% of the control group(P<0.01).Conclusion: the study shows that arrowhead fat-burning capsules can well alleviate clinical symptoms in patients with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, reduce patients’ body mass index, reduce insulin resistance, improve the liver function, correct lipid metabolic disturbance and improve liver imaging changes. Besides, there is no adverse reaction during the treatment process, so it is a safe traditional Chinese medicine preparations without toxic side effects and it has a good therapeutic effect on stagnation of phlegm-dampness syndrome of nonalcoholic fatty liver.
