Objective:To study the age, sex, location, size, and pathological characteristics of colorectal polyps and the detection rate of colon cancer, which purpose to provide a scientific basis for the clinical diagnosis and treatment of colorectal and reduce the incidence of colorectal cancer. Methods:A total of 15636 persons were received colonoscopy in our hospital from June 2009 to May 2015, 2942 patients with colorectal polyps were found. And the clinical, arthroscopic and pathological characteristics of colorectal polyps were retrospectively analyzed. Results:The incidence of colorectal polyps was 18.8%, including 1694 men and 1248 women. The rate of colorectal polyp was 48.5%(1428/2942) in 40-69 years old. The incidence of polyps from high to low was rectum 31.6%(958/3030), sigmoid colon21.6%(655/3030),transverse colon 16.5%(499/3030), descending colon 13.1%(398/3030),ascending colon 10.9%(330/3030), and ileocecum 6.3%(190/3030). More polyps were found on distal than proximal, left colon was given priority to polyps, especially the rectum and sigmoid colon. The adenomatous, inflammatory, hyperplasic, and juvenile polyps accounted for 58.8%(1782/3030), 16.8%(509/3030), 24.1%(730/3030),0.3%(9/3030), respectively. In all cases, there were 141 cases of early carcinoma, accounted for 0.9%(141/15636). 622 cases of malignant polyps appeared, occupy 21.1%,including 325 male and 297 female. Different pathological types of polyps with the different malignant transformation rate. It had the most highest canceration rate in villous(61.2%), mixed(39.3%) and tubular adenomas(15.5%), while the cancerous rate in inflammatory, hyperplasic polyps were 0.8%, 0.5%. The rate of canceration seemed to depend on its dimensions, being 0.5%(7/1295), 0.6%(4/699), 8.5%(22/260)and76.7%(595/776)for the < 0.5cm, 0.5-0.9cm, 1.0-1.9 cm, and ≥ 2.0 cm in size, respectively. Polyps located in rectum had the highest canceration rate, occupy 29.2%.Canceration rate in ascending colon and sigmoid were 26.7%, 19.2%.Conclusion:In recent years, the colorectal polyps occur in the elderly were getting younger and younger. The detection in the male was higher than that in the female, while the canceration of the women was higher than men. The common pathological types were adenomatous polyps and hyperplastic polyps. Different pathological types of polyps were almost observed in left colon. The incidence of polyp canceration was associated with the patient’s age, the pathological type of polyps, locations, and its size. It is the key to prevent polyp canceration by early detecting and removing all polyps we found, whether it is small or not.
