Objective:To evaluate the evolvement of etiology of acute pancreatitis(AP) in the recent 10 years, and to compare the difference of the cause of the disease between China and the developed countries.Methods:Meta-analysis was used to evaluate the data extracted from 23 retrospective studies on the etiology of AP.Results:In contrast with the different composition of common causes of AP in the recent 10 years, the incidence of biliary AP, alcoholic AP and hyperlipidemia AP significantly increased and hyperlipidemia AP has becomed the second major causes in the period from 2010 to 2015.The incidence of idiopathic AP was lower than that of in the period from 2005 to 2010. In contrast with the incidence of common causes of AP between China and developed countries, the incidence of alcoholic AP and idiopathic AP in developed countries was higher than that of in China, while the incidence of hyperlipidemia AP in China was higher than that of in developed countries. The difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).Conclusion:The profile of AP causes changes chronologically in China. The incidence of biliary AP, alcoholic AP and hyperlipidemia AP increased. However biliary AP and alcoholic AP were the main cause in developed countries.
