Evaluation Of The Vertebral Plate And Ligament Composite Hinged Rebuilding Of Surgery For Intra-spinal Neoplasm

Objective:The purpose of this study was to evaluate the type of surgery for intra-spinal neoplasm performed in the Qinghai University Affiliated Hospital(QUAH) in Xining, concerning the clinical outcome and patients’ satisfaction.Methods:During the period of time between August 2013 and February 2016, 30 patients(13 male and 17 female) of the average age of 47 years(13 to 67 years) with intra-spinal extra-medullary benign neoplasm were included in the study. 29 tumors affected the intradural extra-medullar region and one tumor the epidural extra-medullar region. 10 tumors were located in the cervical spine, 12 in the thoracic and 8 in the lumbar spine. The patients were operated according to a standardized protocol,using the approach and bonal refixation with vertebral plate and ligament. The resected tumors were investigated and diagnosed in the QUAH’s pathological laboratory. All evaluation criteria(clinical and radiographic) were evaluated and documented pre- and postoperatively during a follow-up time of 3 to 18 months, concerning JOA(Japanese Orthopedic Association Score), APDC(Anterior- Posterior Diameter of the Canal), intervertebral angle.Results:All neoplasms were successfully and completely removed. Through pathological investigations 16 neurilemmoma,10 meningioma, 3 lipomyoma and 1 hemangioma were diagnosed. The postoperative clinical and radiographic outcomes were very satisfying for all 30 investigated cases: the range of motion of the spine were normal, no signs of instability in the radiographic follow-ups, like spondylolisthesis, were found.Conclusion:The type of spine surgery, fixing vertebral plate and ligament,performed in QUAH in Xining is an ideal way to resect intra-spinal extra-medullar neoplasms.
