Wei, Jin, Southern and Northern Dynasties are an important stage in the development history of traditional Chinese medicine in Jiangsu province. In accordance with the principle of "chapter-like classifications of scholarship literature, exploring the sources to make them mirror-like bright", the thesis is in an attempt to gather, summarize, compare, analyze and generalize traditional Chinese medicine practitioners and their books in various regions under the jurisdiction of Jiangsu during this period, including those immigrated and emigrated ones, from the perspective of literature history to explore features of those practitioners and their skills as well as state detailedly the achievements, academic status and the later impact of traditional Chinese medicine of Jiangsu.Findings show that the development characteristics of traditional Chinese medicine in Jiangsu during Southern and Northern Dynasties can be generalized as follows. First, there is a high yield of medical literature, among which formula books are the most, and tons of specialist works in which " taking mineral herbs " (fu shi), " Hanshi Power-related detoxification "(jie san) are involved. Second, in terms of medical inheritance, familial medicine appeared at that time, with Xu’s being the most famous. Third, Confucianism, Taoism and Buddhism impact a lot on traditional Chinese medicine, which gives rise to syncretism of medicine and religions. Fourth, more emphasis is laid on the external treatment and emergency research, and priority is given to life nuturing by Chinese alchemy (Dan-refinement) and Dan-taking.The thesis makes a summary from such five aspects as herbalism, medicinal chemistry, clinical subjects, medical institutions and medical education. Academic experiences in this period contributed tremendously to the later development of traditional Chinese medicine. In dynasties after that period, pratitioners and their books, acadenic thoughts, clinical experience, medical institutions and medical education in Jiangsu not only have great influence on medicine at that time, but also lays great foundations for the theoretical and practical development of Chinese medicine. The study aims to provide important theoretical basis and literature references for the research and development of traditional Chinese medicine in Jiangsu province by exploring related literature in Wei, Jin, Southern and Northern dynasties.
