Qualitative Research On Sex Toy Usage In Young Men

Sex toys are goods that used to help people in their sexual life to improve sexual pleasure and increase sexual stimulates. Now, sex toys are increasingly walks into the Chinese people’s life, and the young people become the main consumer groups of sex toys. Because of the type of sex toys, the user’s physical condition, the mentality and the process when they use sex toys are different; the user usually has a different experience of sex toys because of the differences of the type of sex toys.This study choose Chinese young male sex toy users as the object of study, using qualitative research methods to explore their usage of sex toys. Ⅰ choose half structured interview to communicate in depth with 18 young men of sex toy users from different cities and regions of China. Through the analysis of the interview data,Ⅰ have in depth understanding of the characteristics of their sexual concepts, views about sex toys, mentalities and experiences of using sex toys, and based on these research findings, the related suggestions for sex toys users, producer and seller are put forward.The study founds are listed below. In the aspect of sexual concept, Chinese young male sex toy users have diversified views on sexuality, and they possess consciousness of gender equality and sexual health. In the aspect of mentalities about using sex toys, they have diversified motivation of using sex toys, at the same time, they also get many worries in using sex toys. In the aspect of views to sex toys, they will usually treat sex toys as private goods, then, they have some misunderstanding toward sex toys, thirdly, they will give priority to the practicality of the products’ function and the invisibility of the products’appearance when they choose sex toys, last, they are optimistic about sex toys’prospects. In the aspect of experiences of using sex toys, they feel conflicted in masturbation, but they generally reflect well to the use of sex toys among partners, meanwhile, sexual rights become influence factors in the process.Based on the above findings, I put forward the following suggestions for the Chinese young male sex toy users:1, They should strengthen their sexual safety awareness.2, They are supposed to eliminate the misconceptions about sex toys; and they need to hold a more accepting attitude to use sex toys.3, Sex toys shouldn’t be excessively anthropomorphic; the users ought to experience the new fun that sex toys bring us.4, They should get rid of the limit of traditional concept, through which they can harvest more enjoyable experience. And for the sex toys producer and seller,I put forward following suggestions:1, They should focus on improving the products’user experience.2, They need to present some related suggestions about the product’s usage in the manual.3, The producer and seller have a responsibility to help the public to establish the correct knowledge about sex toys through an effective way.
