Objective To report the short-term results of patellofemoral arthroplasty, and to detail possible factors of success including indications, surgical techniques and matters needing attention. Methods Between February 2014 and December 2015,12 patients(8 knees) were chosen that had been performed PFA. There were 2 males(2 knees) and 6 females(6 knees) with an average age of 53.5 years(range,49-68) and an average weight of 62.3kg(range,48-75kg),Patients evaluation consisted of range of motion, the Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index(WOMAC) scales,American Knee Society(AKS) scores and Feller patellar score. Results All patients were followed up for 4 to 24month(mean,15.4 months). Both of WOMAC scores and AKS scores were improved significantly with significant difference(P<0.05). The postoperative Feller patellar score was(25.1±1.4),which was(15.6±1.6) preoperatively. The postoperative range of motion was(133.6°±5.3°),which was(120.1°±3.0°). At the last follow-up,there was no clinical evidence of patellofemoral maltracking, loosening or wear. Conclusions The short-term results of patellofemoral arthroplasty for isolated Patellofemoral Osteoarthritis was satisfactory, and compared with total knee arthroplasty, patellofemoral arthroplasty is in less-invasive nature, and less recovery time. With the development of the implant design considerations, proper patient selection, and technical considerations, the efficacy of patellofemoral arthroplasty will be more and more satisfactory.
