Objective: This study aimed to investigate the effects of core stability training in spastic cerebral palsy rehabilitation. Based on the changes of before and after treatment gross motor function, muscle strength, muscle tension and balance ability. Methods: 12 children with spastic cerebral palsy(SCP) are divided into two groups randomly. One is the treatment group(n=6) and the other is the control group(n=6).Routine physiotherapy has been used on each group. Core stability training has been utilized on the treatment group additionally. Before and after treatment of both groups, gross motor function measure(GMFM-88) has been adopted to assess motor ability, manual muscle test(MMT) has been taken to evaluate the muscle strength, modified Ashworth scale(MAS) has been taken to evaluate the muscle tension, and Berg Balance Scale has been used to assess balance ability. After treatment for 18 weeks, the evaluation results were analyzed with statistics, and compared the differences before and after treatment and between two groups. Results: 1. After 18 weeks of treatment, both groups revealed a significant difference(P<0.05) on the scores of GMFM compared with itself before; the differences between both groups has statistical significance(P<0.05).2. After 18 weeks of treatment, the treatment group revealed a statistically significant(P<0.05), the control group revealed no statistical significance(P>0.05) on the score of MMT compared with itself before; the differences between both groups has statistical significance(P<0.05).3. After 18 weeks of treatment, both groups revealed a significant difference(P<0.05) on the scores of MAS compared with itself before; the differences between both groups has no statistical significance(P > 0.05).4. After 18 weeks of treatment, both groups revealed a significant difference(P<0.05) on the scores of BBS compared with itself before; the differences between both groups has statistical significance(P<0.05).Conclusion: 1. Core stability training combined with routine exercise therapy can enhance the gross motor function, muscle strength of the core area, balance ability, and reduce muscle tension of children with spastic cerebral palsy.2. Core stability training can promote and enhance gross motor function, muscle strength, balance ability of children with spastic cerebral palsy obviously.3. Core stability training has no significant effect on muscle tension of children with.spastic cerebral palsy.
