ObjectiveThe curative effect of acupuncture at ghost points with auricular-plaster therapy in treating insomnia of liver depression to fire was observed in the study by comparing another kind of treatment which consists of routine acupuncture with auricular-plaster therapy. From the research, we expected to probe into the mechanism of the assembled treatment, that is, acupuncture at ghost points with auricular-plaster therapy, in treating insomnia of liver depression to fire from the perspective of traditional Chinese medicine. In the meanwhile, we tend to provide clinical researchers with new ideas and evidences to develop the use of acupuncture at ghost points in treating insomnia of liver depression to fire.Method60 eligible volunteers who were suffering from insomnia of liver depression to fire were recruited in our study, and all the research subjects involved were divided into two group (one was the treatment group and the other was control group) randomly, of which the proportion of members remained even. Acupuncture at ghost points with auricular-plaster therapy was adopted on the treatment group while and routine acupuncture with auricular-plaster therapy was applied in the control group. All of the research subjects suffering from insomnia of liver depression to fire were treated every other day. One course of therapy consist of 6 times of treatments. In this study, all of the research subjects suffering from insomnia of liver depression to fire recruited were required to receive two courses of treatments aggregately. The quality of sleep of the research subjects suffering from insomnia of liver depression to fire in both groups were evaluated by the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index(PSQI), and the anxiety emotion of the research subjects suffering from insomnia of liver depression to fire in both groups were evaluated by the Self-rating Anxiety Scale (SAS)at two different time:before the therapy, after two courses of treatments. The total clinical curative effects of the treatment group and the control group were estimated after two courses of treatments. SPSS 22.0 statistical software was used for dealing with all the data from the treatment group and the control group.Results1.According to statistic analysis, the baseline characteristic, which mainly consisted of gender factor, age factor, course factor, the total score and the integral of PSQI, the total score of SAS, of the treatment group before the treatment resembled that of the control group before the treatment, from which we could tell that the treatment group and the control group were comparative before the treatment.2.The improvement of sleep quality and alleviation of anxiety emotion in the treatment group and the control group:By intra-group comparison, the total scores of PSQI and SAS in both groups after the treatments (after two courses of treatments) were lower than those before the treatment, and the data in the study were statistically comparable (P <0.05), indicating that the therapies applied in the treatment group and the control group were effective in improving the sleep quality and alleviating the anxiety. By inter-group comparison,we could see that the total scores of PSQI and SAS in the treatment group after the treatments(after two courses of treatments) decreased more significantly than those in the control group, which had statistical difference. Thus we were informed that, the treatments adopted in the treatment group had better therapeutic effects in improving the sleep quality and alleviating the anxiety of those who were suffering from insomnia of liver depression to fire.3. The total clinical curative effects of the treatment group and the control group estimated after two courses of treatments:The number of recovered of 30 patients who treated by acupuncture at ghost points with auricular-plaster therapy in the treatment group was 4,17 subjects in the in the treatment group improved significantly,6 in the in the treatment group worked, which made a total effective clinical rate of 90.00%, only 3 subjects in the in the treatment group were invalid. The number of recovered of subjects who treated by routine acupuncture with auricular-plaster therapy in control group was 3,7 subjects in the in the control group improved significantly, while 13 in the in the control group worked, which made a effective clinical rate (86.67%) lower than that in the treatment group,7 subjects in the in the treatment group were invalid. By inter-group comparison,we could see that the total clinical curative effects of the treatment group after the treatments(after two courses of treatments) were significantly higher than that in the control group, showing that the treatments adopted in the treatment group had better therapeutic effects on the research subjects who were suffering from insomnia of liver depression to fire.ConclusionFrom the data shown in the study, we can learn that the treatments adopted in both groups have certain and stable effect on the research subjects who were suffering from insomnia of liver depression to fire in terms of improving the sleep quality and alleviating the anxiety. As a consequence, we can conclude that acupuncture at ghost points with auricular-plaster therapy in treating insomnia of liver depression to fire is an effective therapy which is worthy of clinical application.
