Objective:The underlying thinking of different doses and administration methods of Zhang Zhongjing application decoction, powder and pills to treat vomiting, as well as characteristics and laws of the compatibility of relevant prescriptions are analyzed and discussed, for various departments to treat vomiting-related diseases better.Significance:Vomiting has complex symptoms. Vomiting therapies vary with pathogenic factors, viscera involved and patient’s constitution. It is of great importance to find out pathogenic factors and a clear diagnosis to stop vomiting rapidly and improve the overall outcome of disease. However, clinically there is still tumor-related vomiting, neurological vomiting, obstructive vomiting and a lot of cases which are refractory. Therefore, it is a top priority to study Zhongjing’s precious experience in treating vomiting. Treatise on Febrile and Miscellaneous Diseases, as "father of prescription books", recorded a large number of prescriptions and methods to treat vomiting and illustrated Zhongjing’s deep understanding of the symptom "vomiting". It is of clear clinical guiding significance to explore treatments for vomiting-related diseases and also helps us to further dig and sort Treatise on Febrile and Miscellaneous Diseases.Method:Entries related to "vomit, retch, nauseate, wamble, spit and post-vomiting" in Treatise on Febrile and Miscellaneous Diseases were collected and sorted, to explore the mechanism and therapeutic characteristics of vomiting and analyze the selection of prescription types and administration methods. The prescription patterns and drug patterns thereof were discussed respectively. With prescriptions as an outline, specific usage and precautions for each prescription were clarified.Conclusion:Zhang Zhongjing put "vomiting" in many complications to analyze them as a whole and managed to judge the rise and fall of expiration, ebb and flow of vital and evil qi and whether an illness is looking up. Doses and administration methods can be chosen according to the patient’s constitution and stomach Qi.
