ObjectiveThe purpose of this paper is to discuss the experience that Professor Li used Chinese herbs in the therapy of diabetes, to investigate the distribution of constitution, symptom, somatotype, age and sex among people who decrease blood sugar with Chinese traditional medicine, to provide a new treatment idea for diabetes and its complications.MethodsFor summarizing the experience of diabetes Chinese medicine treatment, We performed a retrospective study and prospective study of 85 diabetics who were only treated by Chinese medicine from the outpatient of Professor Li between March 2014 and March 2015. We finished the retrospective study by analyzing and updating these cases and finished the prospective study by tracing and following up. The effect were divided into significant-result case, efficient case and inefficient case after observation of FPG、PG2H、HbA1c. We did analysis in syndrome-differentiation of the six meridians, according to the Administration of traditional Chinese medicine on special disease (diabetes) diagnosis standard and six channels outline (Annex 1). The patients were classified into different groups according to Physical Analysis Information Table, BMI, age and sex. At last, we did statistical analysis about the constitution, symptom, somatotype, age and sex of these groups. According to the Rank sum method, to analyze the difference of treatment among cases.ResultsThere are 31 significant-result cases,16 efficient cases and 38 inefficient cases in this study.1. The effective rate of Shaoyang syndrome, Taiyin syndrome, Shaoyin syndrome and Yinyang syndrome are respectively 75.9%,50.0%,35.7% and 33.3%. We analyzed the effects with Rank Sun Test and find that Shaoyang syndrome is more effective that Taiyin syndrome.2.There were significant differences in the result of a rank sum test for the effects in the treatments of the stagnated heat syndrome in the liver and stomach, the spleen asthenia and stomach heat syndrome, the syndrome of yin deficiency with effulgent fire and the syndrome of deficiency of both qi and yin. The treatment effective rate of the stagnated heat syndrome in the liver and stomach is 70%, while the syndrome of deficiency of both qi and yin is only 22.2%. The former is obviously better than the latter.3. It had a huge disparity in the effects of the treatments in the four different physical constitution of Qi depression, dampness-heat, Yin deficient and Yang deficiency. In conclusion, the curative effects among the patients with Qi depression constitution, dampness-heat constitution, Yin deficient constitution were better than those with Yang deficiency constitution.4. After comparing with the curative effects in overweight patients and normal size patients, we found that the difference between them were significant(P=0.0001, P<0.05 and P<0.01).5.It had no difference between the treatment effects in patients with different age and different sex.ConclusionPure traditional Chinese medicine hypoglycemic effects in diabetic with stagnation of liver and stomach heat syndrome were better. Diabetic with Qi depression constitution, dampness-heat constitution and Yin deficient constitution are more suitable for pure Chinese medicine therapy, while diabetic with Yang deficient constitution were not. Compared with normal type diabetic, the overweight diabetics are more suitable for pure Chinese medicine therapy. And effects of pure Chinese medicine therapy in diabetics had no difference in age and sex.
