BackgroundNicotine dependence has been included in disease classification by the World Health Organization (WHO), having become a threat to human health, nicotine dependence is a worldwide problem.Statistics show that China has more than 300 million of the smoking population, which leads to more than 700 million people who do not smoke exposed to second-hand smoke, more than 1 million deaths are caused by smoking related diseases each year.In general,With the deepening awareness of smoking hazard and tobacco control efforts, smoking cessation research has become more and more in-depth.At present.the treatment of nicotine dependence can be divided into two methods at present:western medicine drug therapy and traditional alternative therapy.Western medicine drug therapy includes nicotine replacement therapy, such as nicotine patches, nicotine chewing gum therapy;bupropion therapy, and varenicline therapy belong to no nicotine replacement therapy.Alternative treatments including acupuncture therapy are becoming one of the main methods for the treatment of nicotine dependence. In comparison, acupuncture therapy has the advantages of safety, economy, environmental protection and good clinical effect, but this method lacks relevant laboratory indicators and statistical evidence as support. In order to further verify the characteristics and advantages of traditional Chinese medicine in terms of nicotine withdrawal,This subject observed clinical effect of HT7,LI6,RN17 in nicotine dependence withdrawal.ObjectiveObservation of acupuncture curative effect to giving up smoking by needle HT7, L16, RN17 and provide objective basis for its clinical application.MethodsThis experiment compared the effect of acupuncture point HT7, LI6, RN17with internationally recognized quitting nicotine patch to quit randomized controlled trial. Patients are from WangJing Hospital acupuncture (encephalopathy) clinic. Selected and included 50 patients with desire to quit smoking,25 cases were randomly divided into test group and 25 cases in control group. Experimental group treated by acupuncture points, five times in the first and second weeks, three times per week in the third and fourth week, from the fifth week to eighth week, patients receive treatments 2 times a week; Control group apply a nicotine patch each day and replace it the next day. Before the treatment, at the end of 8th week patients are tested CO content and cotinine levels, these two indicator are also recorded in the 6th months, to identify whether they smoke again. During treatment process four tables were used to evaluate the therapeutic effect namely:Fagerstrom Test for Nicotine Dependence (FTND), Heaviness of Smoking Index (HSI), timely record adverse events in the process of the experiment, etc. Using SPSS 19.0 software for data analyzing.Results1 Baseline data of two groupsThis observation included 50 cases of male patients. The treatment group and the control group (n= 25).47cases completed the test and entered the final statistical analysis,24 cases of treatment group and control group of 23 cases. Patients in experimental group smoked for 23.96 years on average, the average daily amount was 18.33, the average CO value wasl6.33, and average cotinine level was 5.50. Patients in control group smoked for 21.61 years on average, the average daily amount was 18.74, the average CO value was 18.04, and average cotinine levels were 5.57.In the experimental group and control group patients, there were no statistical significance (P> 0.05)in the smoking history, smoking amount, daily CO, cotinine levels data, the baseline data of two comparison groups are comparable.2 Clinical curative effectsFrom the amount of exhaled CO, there was significant down trend in both experimental and control group in the 8th week and 6 months (p< 0.05),which indicated that the two methods can reduce smoking amount in 24 hours. There was no significant difference (p> 0.05) between groups, illustrating the influence of two kinds of methods for patients to reduce smoking is not significantly different in 24 hours. From cotinine level, there was significant down trend in both experimental and control group in 8th week,6th month (p< 0.05),which indicated that the two methods can reduce smoking amount in 7 days. There was also significant difference in the 8th week and 6th month between two groups, which indicated that two methods for smoking patients had obvious effect to reduce smoking, experimental group patients smoke less in 7 days during these periods. From FTND, there was significant down trend in both experimental and control group at the 8th week and 6th month (p< 0.05),which indicated that the two methods all can make patient reduce nicotine dependence. There was no significant difference (p> 0.05) between groups, showing that two methods to reduce nicotine dependence is not obviously different. From HSI, the experimental group and control group both dropped at the 8th week, and 6th months significantly (p< 0.05), illustrating the two methods can reduce patients’smoking intensity. There was no significant difference between two groups at 8th week (p< 0.05)and 6th months (p> 0.05), indicating that there was no obvious difference in decreasing patients’smoking intensity.Conclusions1 Needling HT7, LI6, RN17 is an effective method of nicotine withdrawal.2 HT7, LI6, RN17 can not only effectively kick the smoking habit but also can alleviate patients’emotional instability due to quit smoking, patients reducing smoking amount.
