Development Of The HIV/AIDS Patients Self-Management Scale

ObjectiveTo develop self-management scale for Chinese patients with HIV/AIDS and analysis Psychometric properties of this scale.MethodsThrough reading a large number of literature, The HIV/AIDS Patients self-management theory was developed based on self-management Theory, Chronic diseases self-management theory, HIV/AIDS Patients Self-Efficacy theory. And also through expert consultation and HIV/AIDS Patients with interview form the draft. Then through the second round of expert consultation to screening of entry, form the HIV/AIDS Patients Self-management preliminary Scale. After the preliminary test in preliminary scale using the method of project items for selection, form predication scale. Using exploratory factor analysis method to test reliability and validity of the HIV/AIDS Patients self-management scale. The reliability analysis included Cronbach’s a coefficient, the split-half reliability and the test-retest reliability. The validity analysis included content validity, construct validity and criterion-related validity. Result1. Developed the HIV/AIDS Patients Self-management Scale:5 dimensionality,30 items, daily life management dimensionality had 4 items, disease knowledge management dimensionality had 4 items, symptom management dimensionality had 9 items, treatment compliance management dimensionality had 7 items, emotional cognitive management dimensionality had 6 items.2. The critical ration value of all scale items were significant. Value of item-total correlation were over 0.3. Thought the exploratory factor analysis show that, KMO value was 0.863. The Bartlett spherical test shows that, x2=3933.059(df=435, P<0.05). forced extraction of 5 common factor can explain the total variance is 50.687. which indicated that the structure was reasonable of the scale. The value of dimensionality-total with the scale score correlation were 0.682-0.818, and the value of dimensionality-total correlation were 0.624～0.846. The Cronbach’s a coefficient of the scale was 0.889, and the Cronbach’s α coefficient of each dimensionality was 0.624～0.846. the split-half reliability was 0.784 and the test-retest reliability was 0.911. ConclusionThrough the reliability and validity test show that the HIV/AIDS Patients self-management scale had a good result. conform to the requirement of the psychometrics.
