ObjectiveAcupuncture has become popular nowadays in both Eastern and Western countries. There have been many new ways of acupuncture treatment being emerged. Tung’s Orthodox acupuncture is one of these new acupuncture treatments. It is also one of the most popular ways of treatment that has been adopted by many Chinese acupuncture practitioners and medical doctors. Dr. Tung Ching-Chang, originally from Shandong province, is the founder of Tung’s acupuncture. Tung’s Orthodox acupuncture has been known over the last few decades. It originated from Tung’s ancestors. Because of its effectiveness, it has been accepted by many medical doctors.Traditional Chinese acupuncture has thousands of years of history. This paper highlights a brief historical development of both traditional and Tung’s acupuncture. In addition, there is comparison and analysis between Tung’s one-one area and ten-ten area, and traditional fourteen acupoints which share similar insertion positions and have different names. The analysis is comprised of traditonal fourteen acupoints and Tung’s acupoints, meridians, acupoint distribution, needling method, and their usual techniques. The analysis also includes different diagrams and comparisons. The study includes areas of similarities, differences, main concerned areas and their differences. These are summarized and form part of the study of this paper.MethodsVarious points are extracted from Tung’s Orthodox acupuncture points from the One-One area to Ten-Ten area which shares similar positions needle insertion to traditional fourteen acupuncture acupoints but have different names. On selection of these acupoints, they are categorized into their similar insertion areas and further research is completed on these acupoints through the evaluation of sources found on online medical websites such as www.cintcm.com and PubMed, articles from Medical Journals, and various research books on Tung’s Acupuncture and traditional acupuncture points. The research data is collated and analysed based on the following key factors: exact locations (including depth of needle insertion) of the point, treatment indications, meridian laws or rules in which the acupoints follow, the method of treatment implementation on the acupoint, and efficacy of the treatment for specific diseases or illnesses.Results1. Tung’s Orthodox acupuncture and traditional fourteen acupuncture uses two different techniques. Tung’s acupuncture technique consists mainly of needle insertion close to the bone. The acupoint therapeutic range between Tung’s acupuncture and Fourteen acupuncture is similar and both can be used to treat illnesses where deficiencies and blockages cause pain, but Tung’s acupuncture has a wider range.2. Tung’s acupuncture bloodletting technique is done by selecting blood vessels presenting a blockage and is pricked using a sharp needle to release the blood, eliminating the blood blockage. Bloodletting is used in conjunction with acupuncture treatment to various corresponding points on the body during and/or after the bloodletting procedure. The theory of bloodletting is based on 《内经·素问》 where there is 14 chapters outlining the different conditions when bloodletting treatment would be used.3. Tung’s acupuncture provides a quick relief for pain most likely due to the use of acupuncture technique similar to its bloodletting technique.4. Tung’s and Fourteen acupoints can operate independently during clinical treatment. Treatment on a single acupuncture point or various acupuncture points simultaneously both produce high treatment effects.5. The similar points between Tung’s acupoints and Fourteen acupoints are within 1-5 fun of each other and are located on the same meridian, although further in-depth study is needed.6. Only Tung’s acupuncture’s Eight-eight area (points of the thigh) points Chung-Chiu-Liu (8.25) matches the fourteen acupuncture acupoint Feng Shi (GB31).Tung’s Nine-nine area points are similar to those of ear acupuncture.7. Tung’s acupuncture and Traditional fourteen acupuncture points are related because Tung’s acupuncture theory contains theory from the Yellow Emperor.Conclusion1. Good results in the clinical practice of Tung’s acupuncture was due on the founder’s experience in their own acupuncture technique of Dongqi and Daoma sets.2. Tung’s acupuncture is highly effective in treating orthopedic and pain syndrome diseases and illnesses mainly due to two reasons:1) acupuncture technique that inserts the needle close to the bone and 2) the wide use of bloodletting therapy.3. One of Tung’s acupuncture techniques of treatment is treating areas on an axis, such as left corresponding to right or opposite extremities etc, and treating areas where skin or blood rashes can be found with the bloodletting technique.4. Tung’s acupuncture and Traditional fourteen acupuncture points are related because Tung’s acupuncture theory contains theory from the Yellow Emperor.5. Tung’s acupuncture and traditional acupuncture points that are seen as’similar’or the same in position are in fact different acupoint positioning with a small gap between the positions. Due to the minute difference in positioning, they are frequently misunderstood, except of the points Zhong Li and Feng Shi which are the same points, as being the same position when analyzed by the eye.
