Objective: To explore the clinical experience of Professor Guo Junjie in the treatment of diabetic peripherial neuropathies(DPN) by subjective and objective methods. To analysis composition principles based on Traditional Chinese medicine inheritance system.Methods:1. A large of records of DPN patients were collected by learning from teacher in clinic, the experience of syndrome differentiation treatment on DPN were summarized.2. Based on Traditional Chinese medicine inheritance system, the data of 212 attendances of clinical records which include 63 DPN patients treated by Guo Junjie were entered. Data mining methods include frequency of usage, association rules, and cluster analysis were applied in the study, to summarize the principles of Professor Guo Junjie’s prescriptions in the treatment of diabetic peripherial neuropathies by man-machine combination.Results:1.The basic pathogenesis of DPN was liver-kidney yin deficiency and phlegm-stagnant blockeded in collaterals, its therapeutic principle was reinforcing kidney, nourishing liver, resolving phlegm and dredging collaterals. His empirical formula involves white peony, peony bark, ligustrum lucidum, achyranthes, papaya, radix scrophulariae, chrysanthemum, radix glehniae, atractylodes rhizome, oyster, keel, pericarpium citri.2.The analysis of prescriptions showed as follows:(1)The Chinese medicines which being used more than 70 times were white peony, peony bark, ligustrumlucidum, achyranthes, papaya, tangerine peel, radix scrophulariae, chrysanthemum, radix glehniae, atractylodes rhizome, oyster, keel.(2)The percentage of four nature of drugs from large to small is as follows:cold(40.52%)、warm(25.09)、calm(21.83%)、cool(12.39%)、hot(0.15%).(3)The percentage of five flavours from large to small is as follows:bitter(35.33%)、sweet(29.16%)、pungent(15.64%)、acid(12.01%)、salt(4.91%),astringent(2.93%).(4)The percentage of channel entry from large to small is as follows:liver, kidney, spleen, heart, lung.(5) 129 combinations of medicines have been used more than 50 times, there were 83 association rules(Confidence ≥ 0.9).(6)16 core combination were evolved by unsupervised hierarchical clustering, and 8 new prescriptions were obtained. Conclusion: Professor Guo Junjie had been engaged in Chinese medicine treatment of DPN more than 30 years, he has accumulated rich clinical experience.By learning from teacher in clinic and data mining, the The principles of his prescriptions on DPN were summarized. Based on the progression of pathogenesis,There were there syndrome types in the treatment of DPN: qi-yin deficiency with dampness and phlegm occurred in the initial stage, liver-kidney yin deficiency with phlegm and blood stasis obstructing collaterals was the basic stage, yin-yang deficiency with phlegm toxin cementation occurred in final stage. The basic formula corresponds to liver-kidney yin deficiency with phlegm and blood stasis obstructing collaterals syndrome.Data mining of Traditional Chinese medicine inheritance system not only completed the basic formula but also provided core medicines for qi-yin deficiency with dampness and phlegm syndrome and yin-yang deficiency with phlegm toxin cementation syndrome. Deteriorated syndrome were divided into four main types:heat of the stomach leading to dryness of the intestine, hyperactivity of yang due to yin deficiency, static blood blocking heart meridian and dampness-toxin offend exterior.TCM inheritance system has a good supporting role for the heritage of experience of famous veteran teran doctors of TCM.
