Dental implant is an important and widely used method for treating missing tooth, which technological advantage and therapeutic effect have been accepted in clinic. Before traditional surgery, the dentist analysis the jawbone tissues from CT images, then make operational plan. The therapeutic effect of traditional dental implant greatly depends on the experience and technique of a dentist. The implant always dislocation after surgery. Therefore, how to make a reasonable operational plan which is the key of a successful dental implant.In order to solve this problem, a visual virtual dental implant system based on VTK was designed and completed, based on the analyses of the existing system both domestic and overseas and the medical actuality of China. The system consists of reading data, measuring distance, three-dimensional reconstruction, virtual plant and model export functions. Combined with the finite element analysis method, the system can provide reference for medical personnel to make operational plan.The system read the CBCT data and gets the information of data and patient by analyzing the DICOM agreement. At the same time, volume data were created and showed in the interface of the system. The images in the transverse plane, coronal plane, sagittal plane and any section planes can be showed. The image display mode can be adjusted by a VTK class. In the image, the distance between any two points can be measured through calculate the length of line segment placed in the image.For purpose of building the model of jaw, little triangular isosurfaces were created from voxel by vtkMarchingCubes class encapsulate MC method. Then reconstruct the whole isosurface of jaw by connecting little triangular isosurfaces. For the veracity of the model, the threshold value of isosurface can be set by medical personnel depending on the clinical states.Use the standard SLA ITI implants of Straumann company as reference, the models of various types of implants were built in three-dimensional modeling software. An implant library was created to save the models in STL format. In the process of virtual plant, a right type of implant will be chose from the library and change its relative position with the jaw model by translation and rotation.At last, the model includes implant and jaw bone will be exported and used in finite element analysis. By analysis the stress distribution in the process of chewing, a best implant scheme can be chose from the angle of engineering and provided as reference for medical personnel.
