STUDY OBJECTIVE:(1)To investgate sleep status in pupils in guangzhou.(2)To evaluate the distribution of various sleep parameters in school-age children.(3)To submit information for the research work in the field of study in sleep status of pupils.STUDY METHODS:Instrument:A cross-sectional survey was conducted among schoo-age children.A total of 3463 children in grade 1 to grade 6 in five primary schools of Guangzhou City were sampled by random cluster sampling.In the course of studies parents of participants completed The Sleep Questionnaire of The Chinese University of Hong Kong,respondents provided demographic and sleep-related information of their children.Quality control:This research was supported by the National Natural Science Funds (NO:30800303).The sampling design and the statistical analysis were both performed according to the design of this subject to make sure the whole study was scientific and reasonable.Investigator explained to subjects how to fill in the scale before the test.After the investigation,we selected the received question naires, rejected questionnaires which writing quality was not high.Statistics:Process the data by SPSS 21.0.One-way multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA) were used to test the typical bed and awakening times,sleep duration during school days and weekends,Chi-Square test was used to analysis sleep quality,day time fatigue and other sleep disorders.RESULTS:In school days,average sleep time ranged from 9.3297h for first grade children to 8.7830 for grade 6th children.During weekend,The differences between grad-levels of sleep duration was not significant.There was no significant difference regarding to daytime sleepiness between different grade children. In sleep disorder morbid dities,prone body position and thirsty during geting up seemed differ in different grades.CONCLUSIONS:High grade level has negative effects on the sleep of school-age childern,high-level grade children had less sleep opportunity in school days.It contributes to delayed bedtime and shorter sleep duration.The self-regulated supple mentary of high level grade children was sleep longer during the weekend.
