Effectiveness Evaluation Of HIV Patients With Over-6-year Chinese Medicine Treatment

Objective:Through analyzing the lymphocytes, Karnovsky integral, the integral of symptoms and physical signs, the times of being caught cold, weight and etc, and studying the influence traditional Chinese medicine has on clinical symptoms, quality of life, length of survival, enhancement of immune ability, this paper aims to ascertain whether long-term traditional Chinese medicine treatment will exert positive effect on the cure of AIDS so as to provide guidance for the further clinic and research of AIDS precaution with this treatment.Methods:By adopting self-contrast method, retrospective analysis, literature contrast analysis, and etc, we treated 26 HIV-infected patients with detoxication capsule, Fuyang detoxication granules and Qiling Yiqi tablets for over six years. And then we recorded the result of post-treatment every month, checked and also recorded the CD4+T lymphocytes of PB (Peripheral Blood) every three months, and compared the changes of the lymphocytes (average value) and pathogenetic conditions of pre-treatment patients with those after receiving one-to-seven-year treatment.Results:At the end of the first, second and third year of traditional Chinese medicine treatment, the CD4+T lymphocytes, compared with that before treatment, did not display the trend of descending apparently but remain stable; Karnovsky integral was on rise, symptoms and physical signs integral had no obvious change, and the times of being caught cold was on the obvious downward trend. At the end of the fourth and fifth year of of the treatment, the CD4+T lymphocytes decreased evidently; Karnovsky integral reduced, the symptoms and physical signs integral were on rise and the times of being caught cold increased. At the end of the sixth and seventh year of the treatment, the CD4+T lymphocytes and Karnovsky integral were on the upward trend again; the symptoms and physical signs integral decreased and the times of being caught cold began to reduce. In terms of weight, during the first and second year of the treatment, there was no obvious sign of change, but it was gained apparently since the third year and exceeded the weight of patients before treatment.Conclusion:Traditional Chinese medicine is capable to periodically improve and stabilize the CD4+T lymphocytes of HIV-infected patients, which will produce long-term effects. The combination of Western and traditional Chinese medicine treatment on AIDS can reduce the toxic and side effect of antiviral drugs and helpfully promote the compliance of the treatment with antiviral drugs. Traditional Chinese medicine can perform efficiently on releasing the clinical symptoms and physical signs of HIV-infected patients, reducing the times of being caught, helping gaining weight and improving the quality of their life.
