OBJECTIVE:To investigate the comparative effects of the distal movement of the maxillary canine, the changes in the degree of the maxillary canine rotation and the pain intensity after loading orthodontic force between menstruation and ovulation in young women to provide more suitable clinical orthodontics theory and methods.METHODS:1.60 unmarried with no reproductive history female patients came to The Affiliated Stomatology Hospital of Chongqing Medical University from January 2012 to June 2013.2.Aged at 18 to 23 years old already had regular menstrual cycle, needed to extract the first premolar in the maxillary and need to implant MIA to increase the anchorage as well as move backward the canine.3. The test were surveyed by the menstrual cycle questionnaire, the basal body temperature measurement and the determination of ovulation with ovulation test strips to get the regular and stable menstrual cycle, menstrual cycle length at 28-32 days and ovulation in the first 14-15 days after menstruation.4.According to the inclusion and exclusion criteria,24 cases of subjects qualifying were selected finally. The 24 cases were divided randomly into two groups loading the orthodontic force at ovulatory period and menstrual period.5.The distance between the reference points and the canine rotation changes were measured at 0 week,4 weeks,8 weeks and 12 weeks. The distal movement of the canine and the canine rotation changes Between these two groups were to be analyzed with SPSS 18.0.6.Surveys about pain intensity after loading orthodontic force was got down at day 0.5,1,2,3,4,5,6 and 7 with visual analogue scale (VAS) by themselves. The results between these two groups statistical analysis were compared with SPSS 18.0.RESULTS:1.The distal movement of the canine loading the orthodontic force at menstrual period were more obvious than the other group(P<0.05).2.The maxillary canine rotation changes loading the orthodontic force at menstrual period were also more obvious than the other group(p<0.05).3.There is no statistically significant difference about the pain intensity after loading orthodontic force between these two groups (p>0.05).CONCLUSIONS:1.Loading orthodontic force at menstrual period can accelerate the movement of the orthodontic teeth to help the orthodontists in clinical and improve the efficiency of the treatment. Simultaneously, attention to control the anchorage during this period need to pay closely.2.Under the experimental conditions, menstrual pain can not be considered as the contraindications of orthodontic force.
