Treatment Of The Skeletal Class â…¢ Malocclusion In Permanent Dentition With The New Ribbon Arch Appliance

Objective: To explore the clinical effect and treatment characteristics of the skeletal class III malocclusion case’s treatment by using the new ribbon arch appliance, establish normal overbite/overjet, control the torque of the anterior tooth and improve the facial profiles.PART ONEMaterials and methods: A case received in Affiliated Union Hospital of Fujian Medical University was treated with the first-generation ribbon appliance. Male patient, aged 17, a concave facial profile, chin point left side 0.5 mm. the mandible cannot retruded to the edge-to-edge incisor position. Bilateral molars and canies relationships were Class III relationship, anterior teeth open bite Ⅰ degree, reverse over-jet Ⅰ degree,lower middle line left side 1mm, no crowded and gap in all upper and lower archs, 36 is residual crown. Cephalometric data: ANB-4.4 °, W ITS-11.9mm; Go Gn-SN 33.1 °; U1-SN 115.6 °; L1-MP 75.5 °. Design : extraction of 36,48, retrocline lower anterior teeth and then close the space, finally adjust the occlusal.Result: Treatment time 24 months. Patient changed to straight profiles and have a normal overbite and overjet without the upper and lower anterior teeth more inclination. Bilateral molars and canies relationships were Class ? relationship.. Cephalometric data after treatment : ANB-2.6 °, W ITS value-6mm; Go Gn-SN 36.6 °; U1-SN 117.3 °; L1-MP 75.2 °.Conclusion: One case of skeletal classⅢ malocclusion in permanent dentition was treated effectively by using the first-generation new ribbon arch appliance, anterior teeth to achieve good torque and facial profile improved significantly.PART TWOMaterials and methods: A case received in Affiliated Union Hospital of Fujian Medical University was treated with the secend-generation ribbon appliance. Male patient, aged 19, a concave facial profile,chin point right 2mm, the mandible cannot retrude to the edge-to-edge incisor position. Bilateral molars and canies relationships were Class III relationship, anterior teeth open bite Ⅱ degree, reverse over-jet Ⅰ degree, There was normal arrangement in the upper arch and 5mm gap in lower arch. 26,46 is residual crowns and 36 is residual root. Cephalometric data: ANB-0.9 °, W ITS-8.7mm; Go Gn-SN 41.9 °; U1-SN 109.8 °; L1-MP 78.5 °. Design : extraction of 26,36,46, retrocline lower anterior teeth and then close space, finally adjust the occlusal.Result: Anterior teeth was edge-to-edge after 8 months ’ treatment, was goning well with the treatment plan.Cephalometric data after treatment : ANB-1.2, W ITS value-6.6; Go Gn-SN 37.5°; U1-SN 108°; L1-MP 79 °.Conclusion: One case of skeletal classⅢ malocclusion in permanent dentition was treated effectively by using the second generation new ribbon arch appliance,time to release reverse over-jet was short.Anterior teeth to achieve good torque and facial profile improved significantly.
