Objective To investigate the correlations between the main genes involved in the metabolic pathway of vitamin D, including VDR, CYP27B1 and GC genes, and bronchial athma in children. Methods In a case-control study consisting of 90 asthma children and 90 unrelated disease free controls recruited from Qingdao. We investigated polymorphisms of three main genes involved in the metabolic pathway of vitamin D, including VDR, CYP27B1 and GC genes by using the technology of mass spectrometry SNP. We calculated the genotype frequency and allele frequency, and analyze the correlations between the gene polymorphism and bronchial athma and relevant traits in children by using the SPSS software. Results We found that the differences of genotype and allele frequency in asthma group and control group had no statistical significance(χ2=1.832, P=0.400, χ2=4.710, P=0.095; χ2=3.442, P=0.179). For the gene loci rs2228570, the proportion of mutant allele C is 61.1% in asthma group, 68.3% in control group, P>0.05. For the gene loci rs10877012, the proportion of mutant allele T is 66.1% in asthma group, 67.2% in control group, P>0.05. For the gene loci rs22282679, the proportion of mutant allele C is 635.6% in asthma group, 35.6% in control group, P>0.05.Conclusions The gene polymorphism of the main genes involved in the metabolic pathway of vitamin D, including VDR, CYP27B1 and GC genes loci has no correlations with bronchial athma and relevant traits in children.
