Sleep is an important physiological processes, and the sleep quality is closely related to people’s physical and mental health. But with the rapid development of society and the accelerating rhythm of life, sleep disorders has become a widespread social problem. During sleep, the brain cells is in a series of physiological changes. The EEG which is the sum of cerebral cortex neuron discharge, can reflect the activity of the brain, so it can be used as the evaluation of sleep quality. Therefore, how to use external physical stimulation inducing the synchronous response of brain waves, thereby helping to improve sleep quality of sleep disorder patients has become a research hotspot nowadays. The purpose of this paper is to use the EEG technology to research the sleep characteristics respectively from the EEG energy, complexity and complex networks, which can help observing the brain physiological mechanism under photic stimulation. Paper main research contents and innovation points are as follows:(1)Using American neuroscan EEG machine to acquisition volunteers’ EEG signals, and using time-frequency analysis and wavelet packet decomposition algorithm for sleep stages and abstracting Characteristic EEG, which can provide premise conditions for analyzing EEG parameters.(2)Using classical linear analysis method to calculate EEG energy, which is used as the evaluation of the sleep state, and comparing with normal sleep to study sleep EEG energy response under photic stimulation. The results found that the theta and delta wave energy were significantly enhanced at the top and central region of brain in photic stimulation sleep.(3)Using nonlinear dynamics method for EEG complexity analysis, firstly, calculating EEG complexity value as the evaluation parameters of sleep quality, then comparing normal sleep and sleep under photic stimulation to study the influence of the light induced sleep. The results found that the EEG complexity and theta wave complexity were significantly enhanced in photic stimulation sleep.(4)EEG as a chaotic signal can be used to construct complex electrical network to restore EEG system characteristics based on the embedding theory. Firstly, using correlation analysis to construct EEG complex network and using adjacency matrix and graph theory to qualitatively show differences between normal sleep and light induced sleep, as well as calculating network parameters for quantitatively study. The results found that the network density, group characteristics and connectivity were weaker in S1 and SWS station of photic stimulation sleep.
