Objective : Relations between homocysteine and diabetes are stronger, plasma homocysteine can affect diabetic patients’ insulin secretion and insulin resistance。Diabetic patients always have a high homocysteine which can aggravate the insulin secretion’s disadvantage and the insulin resistance.High homocysteine(HHcy) is a independent risk factor for diabetes and its complications. Chinese medicine theories suggest that high homocysteine is strongly associated with the blood stasis and phlegm stagnation in vivo, which leads to obstacles for absorption and utilization of the microscopic substances, which leads to the clinical symptoms and abnormal biochemistry indexes. This is a placebo-controlled study which aims to observe the phlegm-eliminating tea on Hcy of the 2 type Diabetic patients with phlegm and blood stasis syndrome,to promote the development of the traditional chinese medicine,to provide more thoughts for the treatment on the diabetic macrovascular and microvascular complications. Methods:Within the Second Hospital of Shanxi University of Traditional Chinese medicine,80 patients with type 2 diabetes selected from the Endocrinology Department were randomly divided into treatment group(40 patients)and control group(40 patients).Patients in Control group were treated with the conventional therapy(vitamin B12 plus folic acid); patients in treatment group were treated with conventional therapy plus Quzhi Huatan tea. After 8 weeks of treatment, we evaluated the treatment effect by the questionnaires and the biochemistry indexes. Results : 1.Compared with pretherapy, both groups’ Hcy were significantly decreased, there was a significant difference( t> 2.58, P <0.01);After treatment, the two groups, campared with each other, there was a significant difference(t=4.12, P <0.01); 2.FPG, HbA1 c, PPG, IAI were significantly decreased compared with pretherapy,(t> 2.68, P <0.01), a significant difference; 3.triglycerides, total cholesterol levels were significantly decreased compared with pretherapy(t> 2.68, P <0.01), a significant difference; after treatment, the treatment group’s TG and TC levels compared with the control group,(t> 2.68, P <0.01),a significant difference; after treatment, the level of HDL-C compared to pre-treatment were increased, the level of LDL-C compared to pre-treatment were decreased, the treatment group, compared with pretherapy,(t>2.68, P <0.01), a significant difference;the control group, compared with pre-treatment(t<1.96, P> 0.05), no significant difference;after treatment,as for the level of HDL-C and LDL-C,comparison between groups(t<1.96,P>0.05),no significant difference;4.Therapeutic evaluation of traditional Chinese medicine syndromes:compared with the pre-treatment,by means of the accumulate points about the syndromes before and after the treatment, there was a sinificant defference between groups(P<0.01);compared with the pre-treatment,the treatment group(the total symptoms improving rate is 85%,the significant symptoms improving rate is 52%);the control group(the total symptoms improving rate is 55%,the significant symptoms improving rate is 20%),there was a significant defference between the treatment group and the control group(P<0.05)Conclusion:Quzhi Huatan tea can effectively decreases the concentration of plasma homocysteine, and significantly improve the symptoms caused by the high homocysteine, with no side effects of adverse reaction. This study suggests that Quzhi Huatan tea, under the guidance of theories of the traditional chinese medicine, will have a bright future in treating the diabetes, especially for the the diabetic macrovascular and microvascular complications.,In order to get new treatment,we will do more research to investigate the pharmacological actions of Quzhi Huatan tea.
