Objective: To analyse the overall operation of county hospital of traditionalChinese medicine from the year of 2009 to 2013, which including the income andexpenditure of medical service, the volume of medical service and efficiencychanges. And to explore the patients’ satisfaction for medical services and itsinfluential factors, and then propose some suggestions to promote the developmentof traditional Chinese medicine hospitals.Methods:Literature review, questionnaire and observation methods were usedto collect material. Statistical description, Student’s t test, Analysis of Variance andOrdinal Ploytomous Logistic regression were used to analyse influential factors ofpatients’ satisfaction about medical services in county traditional Chinese medicinehospitals and some targeted measures and recommendations were proposed.Results: The medical service volume of county traditional Chinese medicinehospitals increased year by year from 2009 to 2013 in Fujian province. The hospitalaverage total number of clinics increased by 41.18%, and the growth number ofhospital discharge was 68.30%,steadily improved the efficiency of hospital medicalservices.The daily physician responsible for diagnosis and treatmentpassengersincreased by 14.12%, and the physician responsible for inpatient bed days averagedaily increase of 19.10%. The personnel and equipment in county traditionalChinese medicine hospital were both continuously improved. The growth of totalnumber of employees was 57.57%, with 58.12% increase of the number of medicalpersonnel which the number of both practicing physicians and physician assistantsgrowed by 25.98%, and registered nurses also increased 81.24%. The ratio ofdoctors and nurses decreased. The proportion of traditional Chinese medicinepracticing physicians and physician assistants has increased 2.12 percent, while theproportion of the pharmacy technicians has dropped 5.63 percent, both of whichwere far below standard. The structure of education backgrounds of traditionalChinese medicine practicing physicians and physician assistants were mainlybachelor; the proportion of who had postgraduate qualifications was small, thoughincreased from 1.2% to 2.32%.The average expenses per time increased.Thehospitals’ balance of payments has improved that its income and expenditureincreased 82.22% and 77.64% respectively. The medical income increased 86.55%,while the income of drug increased 41.89%. And among the drug income, westernmedicine accounted for more than 70%.The rate of patients’ satisfaction for medical services of county traditionalChinese medicine hospitals in Fujian province was 61.8%. The highest item ofsatisfaction rate was privacy protection(83.6%), while the lowest was medicaltechnology(45.4%). The significant influential factors of patients’ satisfaction wereincluding medical technology, treatment effect, medical costs, health education,convenient transportation, waiting time, communication, service attitude, whichanalysed by the method of ordinal Logistic regression.Conclusions: With the implementation of the new medical health care reformfrom 2009, the development of county traditional Chinese medicine hospitalsachieved certain results, such as the medical service volume increased year by year,the efficiency of hospital medical services, economic operation scale and personneland equipment levels have been improved steadily. But at the same time, therewere still some limitations and shortcoming: the average expense of each timecontinued to grow, the shortage of traditional Chinese medicine professional staffand high-level personnel, the proportion of Chinese medicine income was still onthe low side, the special services in county traditional Chinese hospital were notobvious, and patients’ satisfaction for the medical services was also low. We shouldimprove patients’ satisfaction from the aspects of medical technology, treatmenteffect and service attitude etc.
