Objective This study was retrospectively analyzed from clinical data of female gastric cancer patients, which to research the high risk factors of ovarian metastasis from gastric cancer and provide a strong basis for the early clinical diagnosis and treatment. Methods All cases were selected from the Fujian Provincial Tumor Hospital.52 cases of metastatic group were female gastric cancer patients with ovarian metastasis who had undergone surgical treatment from January 2004 to December 2013.And 133 cases of the control group were female gastric cancer patients who had undergone radical operation from January 2002 to December 2011,which fulfilled with follow-up of three years or till to death without ovarian metastases.Including age of primary gastric cancer, age of ovarian metastasis, interval of ovarian metastasis, side of ovarian metastasis, marriage, menopause status and the original tumor location, tumor size, gross appearance, histological type, depth of invasion, status of lymph node metastasis were noted down as the candidate risk factors. The design method of case-control study was used. Statistical analysis arc carried out by SPSS software(version 19.0 for window). We used single-factor analysis(chi-square test) and multi-factor analysis(Logistic regression)to investigate the features of the two groups(p<0.05).Results 1. Single-factor analysis showed that there are close relationships between ovarian metastasis from gastric cancer and following features:age of gastric cancer(p=0.000), menopause status(p=0.000) and the tumor location(p=0.000),tumor size(p=0.016),gross appearance(p=0.002),histological type(p=0.000), depth of invasion(p=0.000), status of lymph node metastasis(p=0.000).Patients of gastric cancer with ovarian metastasis had such risk factors as age of onset(1ess than 50 years old),pre-menopausal,original tumor location(gastric antrum cancer),tumor size(greater than 5cm),gross appearance(type Borrmann III、IV),histological type(poorly differential adenocarcinoma, mutinous adenocarcinoma or signet ring cell carcinoma),invasion to the serosa or outside the serosa(T3-4),metastatic lymph nodes more than 6. 2. Multi-factor analysis showed age of gastric cancer(p=0.000, OR=0.909), menopause status(p=0.021,OR=0.214),histological type(p=0.000,OR=2.439),status of lymph node metastasis(p=0.000,OR=1.308) were all independent risk factors for ovarian metastasis from gastric cancer. Conclusions There are close relationships between ovarian metastasis from gastric cancer and age of gastric cancer, menopause status, tumor location, tumor size, gross appearance, histological type, depth of invasion, status of lymph node metastasis. And age of onset(1ess than 50 years old),premenopausal patients, poorly differential adenocarcinoma, mutinous adenocarcinoma or signet ring cell carcinoma, metastatic lymph nodes more than 6 were regarded as the independent indicators for clinical diagnosis and treatment decision-making.
